Keith Idema is not what I would call well liked or well respected in the SpecOps community. I first heard his name in connection with a book published by author Robin Moore called: The Hunt For Bin Laden:Task Force Dagger You'll recall another book of Moore's was The Green Berets later made into the movie starring John Wayne. He is the only journalist ever to complete the SF "Q" Course and go on actual SF ops. He is doing so again in Afghanistan in what should be his golden years. The book is excellent, but I spoke to some of my buddies in DC and at SOCOM about this Idema character and got lots of disgusted looks and comments. I think the gist of it is that he self promotes a lot and this is kind of a violation of the "quiet professional" credo presented by that goup of warriors. But I myself don't know him.

Thanks for the info on Idema. I have no idea whether he in fact was or is in Special Ops or a spook, although that was certainly the rumor back when we met. I do recall that he was extremely loyal/patriotic, intense, and confident in his ability to do whatever he wanted to do. He was not the kind of guy that one easily forgets, which is why I still remember him after all these years.
