Backup electrical systems failed to kick in

A mysterious power failure at Logan Airport that delayed dozens of flights for more than five hours has still not been explained – six days later.

Airport officials insist airline security was not compromised during the blackout Monday at Logan International's Terminal E, but backup electrical systems failed to kick in as they are programmed under such circumstances.

Russkie update: (IVANOV's subtle hint?)

Russia views NUCLEAR DETERRENCE as global security basis

13.07.2004, 17.14

LONDON, July 13 (Itar-Tass)

Russia regards nuclear weapons and nuclear deterrence as the basis of global security, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said in his speech at the International Institute for Strategic Studies here on Tuesday.

"Nuclear deterrence is the burden the great powers have to carry on," the minister said, this makes politicians feel responsible for the decisions they take.

"If such a phenomenon as nuclear deterrence did not exist in the world, the number of conflicts would be far larger," Ivanov emphasized.

He noted that at present there is a trend toward the nuclear deterrence of a new type: "the deterrence for ensuring strategic stability."

The Russian leadership regards the maintenance of high combat capability and combat readiness of the strategic nuclear forces as its main priority.

The main objective of the Russian polity in the field of strategic deterrence is the guaranteed protection of sovereignty, territorial integrity and other vital national interests of Russia and its allies, the defense minister said.

Russia closely watches the USA's actions in this field, for example, its programs to create small nuclear charges, and is ready to take part in ensuring global strategic stability under any scenarios of the development of the military-political situation in the world, where strategic threats come to the foreground, Ivanov said.

No. 664-04
IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 12, 2004

DoD Radar Data Collection Effort Planned for Washington D.C.

Washington, D.C. - The Department of Defense will conduct a series of radar data collection flights over the National Capital Region during the week of 12-16 July in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The impact of these flights will be relatively minor to commercial aircraft, and all flights will be conducted in accordance with FAA and NORAD standards.

All interagency offices have been notified of these flights and to the maximum extent coordination procedures have been completed.

It appears that the thread came under direct attack. I wonder if it's a troll or an OBLCrew type.

Thanks for the information jerseygirl! It's good to know about this before hand so I don't jump out of my skin thinking it's an attack. Once again, the lamestream media will be the last to know (or at least tell).

My heart just skipped a beat at the thread pull notice; I retired before reading the thread in full last night and I just tried to access it 5 minutes ago and it was pulled! Glad it is back. Why can't the "spammer abuse folks" be banned instead of the entire thread being pulled?

Yep. Someone trying to shut us down, again. Glad we're back online. This is an important thread. Good discussion of terror threats found no where else.

Hi HipShot. The mods and JR know who did it. Or, if it was more than 1 person. The message said the thread was pulled because of abuse button spamming.

That was my first thought: Someone's trying to squash this thread. All the more reason to keep it going, to tick them off.

That works for me. If it was a goblin, the IP should be forwarded to TPTB. If it was a local troll, there are laws about such things, depending on what state you're in.

I'm REALLY curious about that IP. I wonder if it was Cairo. Then again, I'm pretty used to disappointment.

If it was anonymous spamming, the person that pulled the thread may not have had access to know who the spammer was. Even if they did, pulling the plug defended the system from overload, and was a proper reaction IMHO.
