Hollywood's Bush-bashing act earns Kerry some bad reviews
KRT NEWS SERVICE ^ | July 10, 2004 | THOMAS FITZGERALD

NEW YORK -- Hollywood stars at a Democratic fund-raiser here late Thursday night ripped President Bush as a liar, "another cheap thug" and a killer in a night of Bush bashing that put the Kerry team on the defensive and provoked widespread criticism. Both Sens. John Kerry and John Edwards were on stage at Radio City Music Hall as the stars uttered their remarks. Neither one rebuked them. Kerry, in fact, said that every performer "conveyed the heart and soul of America."

Yesterday, Republicans called on the Kerry campaign to repudiate the remarks and to release a videotape of the concert so people can judge for themselves. Kerry aides reacted by saying that the stars' attacks didn't represent the candidate's thinking. "If John Kerry is going to praise last night's star-studded hate-fest and characterize it as the 'heart and soul' of America, he should share these values with voters everywhere," said Bush campaign manager Ken Mehlman.

Even a song written for the fund-raiser captured the vehemence of the night. In a song called "Texas Bandido," John Mellencamp wrote, "He's just another cheap thug that sacrifices our young. ... You're going to get us killed with your little white lies."

In a statement yesterday, Sen. Zell Miller (D-Ga.) said he was saddened, but not surprised, that Kerry didn't challenge the commentary. "Last night John Kerry held a fund-raiser in New York that featured performers in a time of war calling the president of the United States a killer, a cheap thug and a liar. John Kerry just sat there, grinning like a mule eating briars," Miller said.

"Where is the TAPE?"

We need to name it: the "Heart and Soul Tape." Prepare protest signs, write letters to the editor refer to it specifically as the "Heart and Soul Tape." Flood the political zeitgeist so the issue does not die.

They're assuming that the "heart and soul of America" has already been sold to the devil. I don't believe the sale has been completed yet, and I pray it never will be.

"This presidential race appears to have become a contest between optimism and pessimism," Chase said. "To be cheerful about 1,000 young Americans having been killed after the war in Iraq has been declared over ... a war started just so he could be called a wartime president, seems to be off the mark." At least, Chase said, "He does have a real fighter pilot suit and helmet and everything."

It must be the pain pills.

time to hit hollywood hard

we need to call the companies who these morons work for . . .
we need to call the people who sell their products . . .
we need to call the movie theatres who show their movies
and tell them NO MORE . . .,

America is now on strike against hollywood.

We should buy no more albums, no more newspapers, no more dvd's, no more cd's, no more movie tickets
we should stop watching network tv . . .

Burn Hollywood Burn!

Surely someone was there with a discreet camcorder. I truly hope some footage appears on someone's website, perhaps advertised by Drudge and/or Free Republic.

Saw a Whoop(s)ie ad for SlimFast recently. It inspired me to sit down and write a letter to the company--excerpt: "As long as Ms. Goldberg is your spokesperson, I won't be buying your product."

Didn't you see the Zogby poll the other day (or maybe it was one of the other ones). The poll showed something like a 49 - 48 split on the vote, and the conclusion of the pollster was that we are a divided country (maybe Edwards message is right on target--2 Americas). We all see it. Why else would any thinking (and I'm trying to be gracious to Kerry here) politician align himself with such a rabble unless he thought it would bring some advantage.

Don't see some political blind spot in Kerry with all this. I think the message is this: a great many Americans feel exactly like these folk do (for all sorts of reasons), and we'd better start a far more sincere effort at addressing the war for America's culture (Her heart and soul). Don't you think that the message the Left sends out is far more appealing for the type of underclass created by the welfare/nanny state, the bankrupt education system (which can only lead an individual into the welfare/nanny state), our failing immigration policies, etc.? Make no mistake, these Leftists know they are waging a winnable war--winnable because they control the means of dissemination of information, the means of dissemination of education, the means of dissemination of entertainment--all powerful influences over culture.
Let's not laugh too hard in here--there's work to be done.

Actually, I stopped buying the Slim Fast products years ago when I read a news report, probably on FR, that the president of the company was one of the largest contributors to Clinton's legal defense fund.
