If they have nothing to be ashamed of it, there's no reason to not let the public see it and put the matter to rest. On the other hand, if there's something damaging there, the first rule of politics is to put the fire out fast. The longer this is in the news, the more it builds up on itself. The John 2 should remember what happened to Jack Ryan. Nothing secret remains secret for long in this country if you're in public life. What is it about politics in the Kerry campaign the people around him don't understand? They should be pros at handling a situation like and here they're acting like rank amateurs. If they can't handle fallout over a mere concert, how is the candidate going to handle his first real foreign policy crisis? He's being tested and found wanting.

"Why is the fact that she had her kids late in life an issue? "

I don't know about that one either. If I had the option, I would have more...and I'm a grandmother. I think it just depends on the individuals and their personal desires. I may criticize these RAT b******s for a lot of things, but this certainly isn't one of them.

"It's really hard to go see a movie these days at the theater."

I feel EXACTLY the same way. Think of the money we will save by NOT going to their movies.

It's the modern medical age. Women give birth in their 50's. Leave it alone, unless you want to be vilified for attacking a man's children.

Kids are a beautiful thing. I will never criticize a man for having children.

That was my point, it's not a point to criticize on.

My sister lost a child when he was 2 (many years ago). At the time, they had not planned on having more children (he was her 4th), but a couple of years after his death, they decided to have more children, and had two more.

She wasn't the age of Elizabeth Edwards, but I just don't think it's a point of criticsm if one decides to have more children.

I joke with my friends and tell them, it's not having a baby at 45 that's hard, it's running after a 2 year old at 47 that wears you out.

Hey, I was 35 when my son was born. Did I ever consider the fact that a 50 year old menopausal mom would be teaching a 15 year old adolescent boy to drive? LOL. You do what you gotta do!

"Teresa Heinz Kerry, told reporters...that "some of the words were ones I would not have used."

Big deal Terry, but how do you feel about the Hollyweird slime using them? Do you share Mrs. Edward's views? Has Mrs. Edwards changed her mind?

Look at how slickly dishonest the DNC/Boston Globe reporters and editors are-

"Kerry said his 51-year-old running mate, who is nine years his junior, is "a man."

The actual kerry quote is- "I have a man, Whoopi!"

What nasty pieces of work are these liberal activists posing as journalists. These enablers of billionaire socialists.

Thank God for the internet and it's ability to force these liars' hands.

"I'm very surprised that any obsetrician would let the 50 yr. old wife of a malpractice lawyer into his office...."

If the doc was smart, he had HIS lawyer write up a complete release and waiver before he let her in the door.

If you don't mind the prospect of your kids having to take care of you or being orphaned at a young age, I guess having them late in life should be no big deal. To the parents anyway.

I doubt she had them to help with her husband's campaign... that doesn't seem to motivate many Democratic politicians. I think it was more the sense of entitlement. At 50, definitely she is pushing the envelope... but given life expectancies, if she lives to be 75, these kids wouldn't be "orphaned" till age 25. As for kids having to "take care" of parents, there's no guarantee of that for anyone, and frankly, I think that's more an economic issue than an age issue. No doubt the Edwards family can afford any nursing care they need. Some of us (like me) delayed having children (though till mid/late 30's, not 50!) because I wanted to be able to take care of them, not the other way around. I think it was better to have them when I could be home with them fulltime than having them in my 20s and parking them in daycare. I find the whole idea of having these two children so much later and after the loss of her son interesting from a psychological perspective. They also have a daughter who I think is in her 20s. I wonder how she feels about all this.....

The Edwards's used donor eggs fertilized with John's sperm that were implanted into Mrs. Edwards. Although they haven't officially stated this fact, it has been alluded to in several interviews (People Maganzine). It is nearly impossible for a 50 year old women to have eggs that are able to be fertilized or develop into survivable embryo's.

That makes mom 49 and 51 at age of birth. Very high-risk pregnancy age for a man who spent his life prosecuting doctors who delivered babies. Most curious.

Great point. Unfortunately, you'll never hear this "incongruous" situation mentioned by the lamestream media. Now if someone like Dan Qualye had been a predatory trial attorney whose wife had a similar high-risk pregnancy, just imagine how tenacious the media interrogration would be.

re: Kids are a beautiful thing. I will never criticize a man for having children.)))

I commend you.

So, let me do it.

These are "vanity babies"-- "narcissitic childbirth" "Me-mommy me-daddy" had through complicated means with no thought that children in their late teens and early twenties might need a healthy mom and a dad, too. Consider that they have a grown daughter, and could have adopted older children.

You also see this with an old guy married to a sweet young thing--she's gotta have her baby to cement the marriage. Since he's getting what he deserves, he's helpless to stop it, and enjoys playing grandpa but not being mistaken for one. That she'll be a young widow with a grown child, but not an independent child, does not interest her.
