Former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, dispatched by the CIA in February 2002 to investigate reports that Iraq sought to reconstitute its nuclear weapons program with uranium from Africa, was specifically recommended for the mission by his wife, a CIA employee, contrary to what he has said publicly.
-------- snip! ----------
Wilson's assertions -- both about what he found in Niger and what the Bush administration did with the information -- were undermined yesterday in a bipartisan Senate intelligence committee report.

Plame got him the job and the White House didn't know they were sending him - otherwise they would have nixed it knowing that Wilson was anti-war. Exactly as I have pointed out many many times. And how could they 'leak' something they weren't involved in is the next logical question.
The sweet taste of vindication.
Sweet, indeed. I share it in my own way. Keep up the good work.

BTW, if I understand the text here, Joe Wilson claimed that the forged Niger documents were forged WITHOUT EVER SEEING THEM.
So this leaves us with three possibilities...
1) He guessed - this is beyond believability.
2) His wife saw them and told him - isn't leaking classified documentation grounds for dismissal and charges?
3) He had ties to the forger - certainly this would be high treason.

Wilson has been outted.
What upsets me about this story, and so many others, is that the Democrats get their headline, which usually reads "Bush lied" and then when the truth comes out, it's such a small story that most leftists have no clue they've been spouting bad information for six months.

"The committee found Wilson had made an earlier trip to Niger in 1999 for the CIA, also at his wife's suggestion."
Interesting. You would have thought that at least one of the several reporters who have written on this subject would have run across this fact. My impression is that this information was known but purposely ignored.

I agree with your surmise that the investigation has broadened from the mere question of the leak, and taken in the question of a cabal in the CIA working to undermine the administration with a campaign of lies, disinformation, and subversion. Add me to the agreement list. I haven't found Wilson clever enough to have pulled the publicity and star treatement off on his own. In my mind he was used, lured by a promised book deal, Vanity Fair spread and all of the rest of the trappings he couldn't resist. (Heck, I remember an interview with him when he thought aloud about who would play him in the movie.)
I believe Wilson is the tip of the iceberg. If that's true it will be made even more satisfying knowing that it all began with the Dems screaming for an investigation of the ruthless Bush administration.

See my other posts on the thread. You are correct, it has been a matter of public record. Both Tenet here and Jack Straw in Britain, for example, remarked on it. The mainstream media dutifully reported the comments, then put them on *ignore* and Wilson's version was allowed free rein.
I always say the truth will out. The problem is the calendar and elections, but it looks like it's percolating up and coming out right in time.

They are like children, taking candy from strangers.
They do remember who was a former Director of the CIA don't they?

He was called a Kerry supporter and 'advisor'. Note the signatory printed in red on this posted letter:

The story will never see the light of day in the leftist media. Instead there will be 24/7 coverage of Brittany Spears' hangnail or something like that.

"Committee staff asked how the former ambassador could have come to the conclusion that the 'dates were wrong and the names were wrong' when he had never seen the CIA reports and had no knowledge of what names and dates were in the reports," the Senate panel said. Wilson told the panel he may have been confused and may have "misspoken" to reporters. The documents -- purported sales agreements between Niger and Iraq -- were not in U.S. hands until eight months after Wilson made his trip to Niger."
WOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! They NAILED him!!!!! Did his Wife show him CONFIDENTIAL documents????

Wilson last year launched a public firestorm with his accusations that the administration had manipulated intelligence to build a case for war.Yes, with the willing help of a DC-NY press corps all too eager to throw mud on GWB and his administration. There won't be a corresponding firestorm about Wilson's exposure as a seditious liar, however.
My tagline until the election:A vote for Kerry-Edwards is a vote for Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Jacques Chirac, the UN, International Criminal Court, and Hollyweirdos like Michael Moore and Whoopie Goldberg.Failure to vote, or a vote for a minority party, is a vote for Kerry-Edwards(unless youre a liberal/Leftist wholl vote Nader, a minority party, or stay home).

...this whole Joe Wilson thing was completely manufactured by Democrat-affiliated political hacks for purely partisan purposes.FReepers who followed this story closely from the beginning figured this out long ago. We even figured out the outlined of how it went down. If we could do it, so could any genuinely objective journalist interested in the truth. That done did speaks volumes about how little the truth means to the DC-NY media corps.
