The wife of vice presidential hopeful John Edwards is defending Whoopi Goldberg after the potty-mouthed comedienne attacked President Bush with an X-rated monologue at Thursday night's Kerry-Edwards fundraiser in New York.
Rejecting calls for her husband's campaign to apologize for Goldberg's outburst, Mrs. Edwards said Friday that the anti-Bush tirade was justified.
"A lot of people are going to be angry - there's a lot to be angry about," she told reporters at a fundraising breakfast on Manhattan's West side. "It's a free country and people are going to express that anger."

Can you see her doing a "tipper" dance during the convention and that nauseating kiss ala al gore?
You sound like an apologist for the woman, why should we hold back our feelings about her anyway ? It's not like the woman's penniless.
She's fat and ugly and her politics stink,
Look back at what I actually said - I just wasn't blatant about it. Now THAT will sting - and can't be written off as "partisan" hate speech.
Yeah, I'm still mad at you about the Jenna remark.
These things are much more hurtful to a young girl than a mature confident woman.
Anyway, she's not chunky.
Freepers can be SO MEAN.
I was thinking of asking Jim to make a rule that anybody posting a disparaging comment about someone's looks must include in his/her post a picture ... and not from ten years ago either.
I've very ashamed, but your comment made me laugh!
Did she make the Stepford wife comment?
Is she a mother and thinks this kind of stuff was ok?
What kind of parents are these people?
Elizabeth Edwards is definately not a southern lady.
agreed!
I agree ... that is totally weird. Not that she didn't take her husband's name -- my daughter didn't either (but she is weird) -- but to make such a remark, sounds very much like a dis of her husband.
So now we have two candidates wives who refused to take their husbands names until it became politically expedient.
I just heard Fox report that the hugging/slapping fest has become a trademark of the two johns. God help us all if this warm/fuzzy stuff permeates the country and eats up what's left of the brain power in America.
What, no mention of Wade?
If I didn't already know who these two were, I'd swear that was a picture of a guy kissing his mom.
It's because of people like you that Liz no longer dares to wear shorts on hot days. Ok, you're right -- it's because of those guys with the harpoons. But why should she worry when she's got Green Peace as her bodyguard? And she does need bodyguards. She's always getting attacked. Just the other day, she rolled into a dress shop. Asked to see something she could feel comfortable in. Sales girl suggested Wyoming. Went across the street to the shoe store. Soon as he saw her, the salesman told her the blacksmith was around the corner. That was the last straw. She said she was gonna sue. He asked her if her law firm was Hagen and Daas. That really had her fuming, so she rolled into the bar nextdoor to have a drink and regain her composure. Told the bartender she needed to go home, would he call her a cab. He said what do you need a cab for, Sea World's right down the block. I'm tellin ya, it's not easy for this woman. She thought maybe if she just went for a swim down at the beach, no one would get on her case. But when she jumped in, the ocean told her to wait her turn. And then a school of whales started serenadin her with We Are Fami-Lee. Not easy, not easy. But, you know, she's pretty good with math. She's gotta be 'cuz the markers on her bath scale are in powers of ten.
This begins to look like mental illness.
When someone's ideas are already so stupid, there's really no need to call them names. Especially when it's a woman.
"Family values" for the Dem(ons) is 3 leather-bound queers walking a pregnant sheep to an abortion clinic.
Im sure we won't be hearing much from her in the future.
No wonder these guys support the gay agenda.
