Security Update - ShellBlock ShellBlock is a security fix update for Bug 250180. It disables the ability to call the shell protocol from within affected Mozilla programs. The shell protocol allows applications to call Windows Explorer using the protocol to run the file specified on the local machine. This update is for users of Mozilla 1.x (up to Mozilla 1.7), Mozilla Firefox (up to 0.9.1), and Mozilla Thunderbird (up to 0.7.1) on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP only.
Mozilla 1.7.1, Firefox 0.9.2 and Thunderbird 0.7.2 have been released with this fix included.
For more information on the issue, read What Mozilla Users should know about the shell: protocol security issue.

Is it similar to Netscape enough that someone with a brain cell deficiency could change over?

They gained 3,000+ new members between yesterday and today!

Definitely a sign of the times. I wish the idiots that write this code would put their knowledge to work on something good, for crying out loud.

You ***ROCK***! :-)

Another great reason to bring back summary public flogging executions. Virus writers.

There, that's better.

Sure thing! It's no problem. Turns out I'm not gonna be around this evening but if you do decide to ping me about this then what you should do is run SpyBot and then post a list of whatever items you can't or don't fix. I need to know the exact name of the subentries, particularly any registry entries. By example, at least one of them should look like this:

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004=W=3

Like that, or very similar. You may have multiple entries (some of which might look rather different). Anyhow, ping me if you want!

...it took an eight-day battle until I finally tracked down the hidden .dll reloader file and deleted the wretched thing using c//: prompt commands in MS-DOS mode...

It's a lot easier to just reinstall everything.

Not for me it wouldn't have been. No need to go into all the details!
