The Democratic Socialists of America's chief organizing goal is to work within the Democratic Party and remove the stigma attached to "socialism" in the eyes of most Americans.

"The Democratic Party is something the public understands, and association with it takes the edge off. Stressing our Democratic Party work will establish some distance from the radical subculture and help integrate you to the milieu of the young liberals."
I'm doing such a good job for Kerry, he doesn't even have to thank me. I can spin anything I want about the President on Kerry's behalf and the surrogates in the press and our socialist pals will support me. Gee? Is there anything more I can do to take America down?
