BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Militants in Iraq (news - web sites) threatened on Thursday to kill two Bulgarian hostages within 24 hours unless U.S.-led forces freed prisoners, stepping up pressure on Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's new interim government.

...

The Arabic satellite television station Al Jazeera said the tape was from the Tawhid and Jihad group headed by Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who has been accused by Washington of links to Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s al Qaeda.

The tape showed two men, identified as Bulgarians, sitting in front of masked captors, two of them wielding automatic weapons while a third read a statement.

"The group said the Bulgarian government bore responsibility over the safety of its citizens because it has sent troops to Iraq," said Al Jazeera.

These barbarians make me sick! What happened to the philipino man from last night? He had 72 hours, but was already in that dreaded orange jumpsuit. Prayers for all of them. :(

Every time this happens, the government that is being blackmailed (Bulgaria in this case) should increase the number of its troops and relax their rules of engagement!

When is the Red Cross, The Media, the UN, et al going to pay these people a visit to condemn the way that they are treating P.O.W.s?

Someone on the threads has been keeping a list: AQ continues to alientate nations, which will begin to work to our advantage: Who is it so far?:

South Koreans
USA
Italians
Philipinos
Turks (released?)
Spanish (sold out to them)
'Threats' to take women soldiers

Notice: Frogs, Germany, and Russia have not been among the abducted. However, Europe has been warned that they have only until July 15 to come to their senses.

These evil mofos knew better than to mess with the Turks,

and messing with Turks is just like messing with Bulgarians

they'll be freed, unless they want the kind of mess they won't get from our Armed Forces.

Bulgarians give the KGB warm fuzzies....

Reuters of course keeps getting the story wrong. It's not militants -- it's terrorists. Although, not too long ago, they would have refered to the Nazi's at Auschwitz as "oven keepers".

You are wrong about Russia. Eleven Russians were abducted back in April, but later released. One was killed and two were abducted in May. The Russian oil company that employed both groups gave in to the demands of the terrorists and exited Iraq. Nevertheless, Russia is no friend to Al Qaida.

Related to this is the fact that Bulgarian Muslims (forcibly muslified by the Turks) are being converted to Christianity as we speak. The Muslims are going crazy over that.
