and the problem today is that we are 'overextending' gov't into such 'inquiries' under the PC guise of 'protecting' the children. Screw protecting the children, protect me! If these kids are directing traffic at construction sites, and the oldest was 13, there's a lot of potential for disaster here. The last thing I want to see on my way home from work is a construction equpiment gone wild because some teen or preteen couldn't figure out construction site logistics. People could die. There's no way anyone can or should attempt to justify or defend this. The guy was hiding behind the bible to use his children as cheap labor that they are clearly not qualified for. Plain and simple.

You make a good point but my read of the article was that the kid was on top of a wagon pushing low hanging stop lights out of the way. Didn't read the directing traffic item, perhaps I am wrong. Then again, this is a rural community, so keep that in mind.
I kind of agree that this is hardly much different than the farm work that kids do, driving tractors, pulling hay wagons, etc.

I have no problem with kids learning work ethic and the family biz (and in fact encourage it), so long as the family biz does not put ME or others in danger.
And as someone else pointed out why doesn't Mr. Doty get a job instead of sitting around the house. I am sure he could be a day laborer at least.
The lack of reporting his employees hours and paying for insurance, heck he probably does not even have medical insurance on his own children should one of them bust their heads open falling off a house (so yes we would have to pay for his kids ER visit).
