Henry to Display Ten Commandments Move Could Prompt Legal Fight

POSTED: 6:25 am EDT July 7, 2004

MCDONOUGH -- Henry County commissioners have voted to display the Ten Commandments in the county courthouse after a citizen donated a 3-by-2 foot framed copy.

"Let them sue. I'm not afraid of a lawsuit," Commissioner Gerry Adams said Tuesday as the commission agreed to the display requested by Ray McBerry, who said he represented League of the South.

McBerry suggested that his donated copy of the Ten Commandments, along with the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights, be placed in the 107-year-old courthouse south of Atlanta.

McBerry's organization, League of the South, says it seeks to preserve Southern heritage. But the group is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

McBerry led an unsuccessful effort three years ago to create a Henry County flag bearing the Confederate battle emblem.

He said displaying the Ten Commandments "would express our solidarity with our sister counties and states across America that are under fire for having done the very same thing themselves."

In Cherokee County, north of Atlanta, commissioners put the Ten Commandments on public display Thursday in their justice center. In Barrow County, northeast of Atlanta, the American Civil Liberties Union, representing an anonymous plaintiff, is suing to have a Commandments display removed from the courthouse.

The most prominent Ten Commandments dispute took place in Alabama in 2002, when Roy Moore was ousted as that state's chief justice for refusing to remove a Commandments monument from his courthouse. If it's an unpopular liberal policy, they scream for states rights. At least Sodom California and Gomorrah Massachusetts will help them spread their death wishes.
If it's a popular Conservative policy, loved by the majority of the American people, they demand the federal courts put a stop to it immediately!!! Ever notice that?

How about this time, lets have the court costs brought about by this illegal action paid by the goof who hung the sign, instead of the general public?

Or we could get the government to write an amendment allowing the total freedom of religious expression. (Oh wait, they already did. Never mind)

Odd that he should want to post them next to each other given their different views on God/gods:
Commandment 1 - "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
Amendment 1 - "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

Exactly!!! It's about time people do. I'm tired of others telling us something OFFENDS them and then it is taken down or out or off of something. They are not the only people in this world. If they don't like it let them look elsewhere. We have to look at things we don't like too. Everyone needs to grow up. I'm glad these people are standing their ground and not being intimidated by a law suit. More people are beginning to stand up and that's good cause that's what makes this country great.

"When are the people going to STAND UP for LIBERTY?"

I think the idea is catching on.

Our liberties and freedoms have been eaten away incrementally for years now.
It's time to stop the bleeding and repair the wound.

We can't do this on a piecemeal basis for only things which we find attractive in our lives.
We have to take a stand against anything which deprives us of any our liberties!
