Don't let the term 'Award' fool you! A Girl Scout has to do plenty of work to get to the point of earning a Silver or Gold Award. A Gold Award represents as much work as an Eagle, and I know this because I'm an Eagle Mom, and our daughter just earned her Silver Award last year and is working toward her Gold.

Your post made me smile. I'm an Eagle w/3 Palms and Bronze Hornaday Dad. My youngest daughter this spring just received her Gold Award. She was having trouble getting the form for the Gold Award from her council so she said "Ok we're a BSA family I'll just use the Eagle Packet." Three days later she had the form. Then to add a twist to it, part of the project involved a nature walk for 3rd graders to learn about a Riparian Preserve, using my copy of the 1948 BSA Field Book to help her identify to the 3rd graders the animal tracks, plants, etc. She then had several family friends that were involved in both scouting programs review her write up just to make sure that it was up to the highest of standards for submission by either scouting program. At the award ceremony there were 5 adults in BSA uniform to see her get her award.

She had paid close attention to her brother's scout training, working on his Eagle project and 4 projects required for his Hornaday, so she knew how to put OUT in the Girl ScOUT activities for her Gold Award.
