Is there a cut-off age for being called up as an IRR soldier? Its a completely self-serving question. My hubby did his stint back in the first gulf war (armored cav) followed by eight years as an MP for the MI Nat'l Guard. He is now 35 years old. If he's called up, he'll go, no question about it. I'm just wondering if I need to be looking out for that DoD envelope. From what I understand, there is need of MPs.

Your hubby signed up for 8 years active and inactive (IRR) duty. Even if his enlistment was four years, he was on the hook to be recalled for the next four. If it has been 8 years since he signed up, he's in the clear.

When I signed up for the NG back in the eighties we had the option of 6 years active 2 years inactive or 3 years active 5 years inactive. You got a much better bonus for choosing the 6x2 option and so most of us did.

If your husband has been out for more than 5 years then there is practically no chance that he is part of the IRR. If he has been out for less than 2 years then the odds are he is part of it.
