I think today was picked to take away from the press coverage of the President's birthday.

"I don't like abortion, I believe life does begin at conception. But I can't take my Catholic belief, my article of faith, and legislate it on a Protestant or a Jew or an athiest...who does not share it. We have seperation of Church and State in the United States of America."

Ah. The genius liberal obviously can't quite get the distinction between the Church as an institution and his own "deeply personal" religious beliefs.

And if Kerry is against legislating his personal beliefs, why does the moron insist on voting *for* abortion?

But the more salient point is: Why do we tolerate such tripe from these fools?

Hyperbole at best - one act is illegal now and the other is legal - no equivalence at all. Kerry's position is not going to sway any conservatives to vote for him. But, he might win some points with the overall female vote.

I don't think he's really going for the conservative vote to begin with. It will be interesting to see how his comments influence polls in the near future.

I think you're right, and not only that, but he's compounded his problem by picking Edwards instead of Hillary. After POing the abortionists, Hillary was the only candidate he could have selected who would restore his credibility with that core constituency.

Senator Kerry has to distance himself from his radical pro-abortion stance because abortion has declined in popularity over the years.

New voters have seen 3D sonograms that clearly show that the child is alive as early as 7 weeks.

Older voters, such as Baby Boomers, are likewise less in favor of abortion now that they are becoming first time grandparents.

That convergence has put quite a squeeze onto the pro-abortion zealots, and it has certainly made it more difficult for a liberal to carry the 38 states that GWB won in 2000 (which are all that he needs to re-win his election this year, too).

Of course. Fortunately for abortion advocates, logic isn't taught in government schools where children supposedly learn "critical thinking," unlike in those horrible medieval schools where logic, grammar and rhetoric comprised the heart of education.

I don't think the selection of Edwards was due to a gaffe, but I contend that Al Gore's selection of Joe Lieberman in 2000 was due to former DNC chairman and current Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell making this statement days before the announcement:

I think Kerry's statement yesterday, contrary to how it looks on the surface, actually expresses the most radical stance on abortion a person can take. In effect, he said "yeah, fetuses are people too but let's kill them anyway". This is the same position held by the most radical pro-death feminists who see abortion as a kind of empowering she-goddess blood rite, knowing full well that it takes the life of a human being. It's a postition closer to pagan hihilism than pragmatic centrism. Most of the pro-abort crowd at least attempt to cover themselves with a figleaf of morality and reason by holding to the notion that a fetus is just a lump of tissue (and may therefore be justly disposed of).

I heard Rush say this earlier today but it's bogus. Fox was reporting all last week that we'd probably hear who his VP pick was on Tuesday morning. Th abortion "gaffe" doesn't matter. The people to whom that would matter are already decided one way or the other.

Sorry but that's not what leadership is all about. You take a stand and then suffer the consequences.

Exactly. Ask Tony Blair about suffering the consequences of an unpopular stance. Although I don't agree with his stance on most domestic issues, he certainly has the Orbs of Leadership when it comes to fighting terrorism.

This idea that a politician must hide his own beliefs and conform to those of his constituents is bogus. If your beliefs don't conform with their's, then you're either living in the wrong town or you're in the wrong business! Tell us what you believe, run on that platform, and win or lose, stand your ground.
