Why is the subject "Gay Marriage" at all?

Because this election is a contest between those who want America to be culturally and politically part of Europe ("international law", UN based foreign policy, secularist cultural values) and those who don't (unilateralism, religious based value systems).

From what I've heard - he is a dynamite public speaker & gets the crowds excited.

I disagree. I think most voters will be underwhelmed by Edwards's style.

It's uncanny how much Edwards resembles the Dan Quayle of 1988 -- from the "boyish good looks," and the pumping-fists-in-the-air "youthful energy," to the gaffes and stumbling around when grilled by the likes of Russert.

There is a difference between Quayle's and Edwards's demeanor, though: Quayle's was natural, while Edwards comes off as practiced, i.e., phony and forced.

Of course, the lamestream media claim to be charmed by this persona, this time around, when it's wearing Democrat clothes. The hypocrites.

But I believe it's only the media, and a few rabid Dim primary voters and soccer moms, who think he's a "dymanite public speaker." I think his antics look immature and turn people off.

Outsourcing would have been a good issue to add to the democrats campaign, but the economy has created 1.3 million jobs this year, with myself being the beneficiary of one. If the jobs continue to come each month, then this becomes less of an issue.

Bird, I think you underestimate how angry some people have been. Like Sam, I could have considered a pro-war democrat who was against outsourcing. I also could not consider candidates who are taking us down a road where child-rape would be legalized someday.

I spent 18 of the last 31 months unemployed. Frankly, I was enraged at the callous, "Let them eat cake", "Start your own business" obliviousness of globalists at what offshoring and outsourcing are doing to American workers. I still am.

Sam, I was in the same boat for months and I share your anger. I worked for a company that sent thousands of jobs overseas just so they could make "savings" on health care. They still are in the red, but fail to acknowledge they got sold a lemon of an idea.

For a while, I thought it would be Gephardt, but I'm completely unsurprised by this move. I still don't think any southern states are going to tip because when push comes to shove, Breck Girl is the #2, not the #1. The Windbag-in-Chief is still at the top of the ticket, and while sheeple morons may have the hots for this vacuous twerp, Lurch is still the side effect they'd have to deal with. Not a good deal.

I've been hearing around here that Nader hates Edwards. Is this true?

I also don't think that it helps that an anagram of 'Kerry Edwards' is 'Dry, dark sewer'.

Why is the subject "Gay Marriage" ... it is not what this election is all about. National Security and the economy are the two big issues in this election - and Bush/Cheney are the best men for the job in that respect.

Actually, you answer your own question. Yes, National Security and the Economy are the big issues and they are Bush/Cheney strengths. Thus to focus elsewhere is the goal of John-John and the media that supports them.

I am experiencing the "horrible" job market right now. I put my US Air Force retirement papers in last week (23 years os long enough), and will be out Nov. 1.

As of today I have 4 firm job offers, and 3 more companies requesting my resume. Yep, I sure hate this current economy, why if Kerry-Edwards were in charge I would have 400 or 500 offers by now I bet. ROFL

Right now, God be praised, I have the best job ever.

But so many have suffered. And non-college Americans continue to suffer from the impact of WSJ cheap labor policies on immigration and offshoring.

Hey, pal, don't get smug.

The airlines aren't hiring so odds are you are looking at defense contractors whose applications are so specialized that they can only hire ex-military people who have the requisite security clearance in any case. On Dice and Careerbuilder they are alway screaming for people but nobody in the civilian world knows anything about what they are looking for.

Don't get smug. It's all cyclical. I remember all those high flying electrical engineers back in the 80's who made a ton of money during the Reagan arms buildup but had to find something else to do for a living when it all ended (like become entry level programmers).

It could all come crashing down for you when this arms buildup ends.

That isn't the MTV generation.

The people voting based on looks are women in their 30's and 40's.

And that is my point.

Your "economy" is government and is based on nothing having anything to do with the overall economy. You are selling very obscure skills and experience only available in the military. And of course a top secret clearance.

Woe betide those electrical engineers who spent as if they would make 1983 paychecks forever.

if you look on DU they are passionate about Iraq

Yes. However both Kerry and Edwards voted for the war in Iraq as Senators. That leaves a lot of Dem voters all dressed up with nowhere to go. Maybe Dean should get back in the race.

given that the war in Iraq, and to some extent the larger issue of national security, will likely dominate the fall campaign, it's also true that Kerry has chosen a running mate who is extraordinarily weak on those issues that matter most

Cheney is already "boning" up on ways to embarrass Edwards in debates when National security is the topic. Look for some real winners for Cheney in this category, as well as all the other topics.

While I agree that some women in their 30s and 40s vote on things such as looks, I also believe that significant segments of the 18-24 crowd also vote based on looks, charisma and perception. MTV, MoveOn and the party in general are targetting that group heavily (remember how pissed they got when a popular clothing store started selling t-shirts that said "Voting is for old people"?). My youngest sister fits that demographic and I simply cannot believe the things that I hear them say, the things they are influenced by. I'm not sure to what extent it will help, but it certainly will not hurt.
