We could use more Bill Clinton now (ULTRA MEGA BARF ALERT)
New York Newsday ^ | July 6, 2004 | Marie Cocco

It's not a beach book.

Too long, too heavy - and yet, not heavy enough. I've finally finished Bill Clinton's autobiography just in time for the lure of summer's lighter fare. Still, I find myself curiously longing for more Bill Clinton. Or at least, the best Bill Clinton.

The best Clinton is the one who emerged on the national scene in 1992 not as a celebrity but as a soothsayer. A political figure who understood what America and Americans were really going through, who thought about it and developed a framework for how to deal with it.

Before Clinton, the American political system was fighting a rear-guard action against global change that was at the root of so much economic hardship, so much cultural upheaval. So much lost hope.

The hemorrhage in manufacturing that began in the 1970s was seen as something to somehow be stopped - though it was, by the end of the 1980s, looking unstoppable. There was no politician willing to say he could not restore the past, only guide us into the future. Until Clinton.

This is the fundamental truth of Clinton's political ascendance. It is not that he was a good talker or a baby boomer or a charismatic charmer, though he was all these. Clinton really was the first president of the 21st century.

There is a protocol for articles such as this. In this case, I believe marking it a "VOMIT TILL YOUR INTESTINES ARE ON THE FLOOR ALERT" is adequate.

Marie must have found her long lost kneepads when she was rummaging in the attic.

Even to this day, the Left is just the homely girl, desperate to have her virtue sullied by the slick-talking, use-em-and-leave-em captain of the football team.

Cocco loco?

Someone should tell her that she was supposed to use the Bill Clinton EARLY in the growing season -- it won't help her veggies when spread this late.

This is entirely believable, if Marie Cocco bought this book on CD.

I find it hard to believe she can read.

No, sorry. It's too early in the morning for more Bill Clinton. Aside from that, I'm entirely too sober.

A member of genus homo sapiens who does something I can never even conceive of doing (voluntarily reading The Nameless One's lieschrift) — and then wants more.

Inconceivable.

And I do know what that word means.

I wonder if those who read, "My Lies," are hitting the crack pipe for the ultimate enlightenment.

Nope. Not enough.

The hemorrhage is caused by High Taxes, EPA, EEOC, Unions, Government rules and regs, on and on. They still will not admit that if 20% of the vote did not go to the guy with the big ears from Texas, clinton would not have been elected.

Bush says to self-insure. He would create medical savings accounts as a substitute for job-based insurance, and retirement accounts as a substitute for pensions. He does not say where the average person gets the money to put into these accounts.

Umm... I'm an average person who has both an MSA and invest in a 401(k). The money comes out of my pre-tax income. Duh. This moocher columnist needs to get a real job and wake up.

The title of this screed makes me think of a strange corruption of the old carol, "We Need A Little Christmas".

"Oh we need a little Clinton, right this very minute
"We don't want the truth, he'll know to spin it"
"Oh we need a little Clinton, right this very minute
"We need a little Clinton now!"

Appropriate, I dare say, for the kneepad brigade. ;)
