''Let me tell you something: When I was a kid, this 'kid from the East' had an aunt and uncle who had a dairy farm, and one of my greatest joys in life -- in fact, I lived on a farm as a young kid. My parents, when we lived in Massachusetts, we lived on a farm, and I learned my first cuss word sitting on a tractor with the guy who was driving it," Kerry said as he stood, wearing jeans and new Timberland hiking boots, in the tractor shed at the Dejno family farm in this community, which was founded on Independence Day in 1876.
''When I was 12 years old, my passion was being allowed to go out and sit on the John Deere and drive it around the field and plow, and I learned, as a kid, what it was like to look in back of me and see those furrows, and see that pattern, and feel a sense of accomplishment, and end up dusty and dirty and tired but feeling great, looking back at that field that you plowed."
Afterward, a spokeswoman, Stephanie Cutter, said Kerry was referring to two farm experiences, one when he and his parents lived on a farm in Millis, Mass., and later when he frequented a dairy farm straddling the Ipswich/Hamilton border that was owned by his aunt and uncle. The first farm was where Kerry rode a tractor with a hand who worked the family's property. At the dairy farm, he tilled the land himself.
At the time, Kerry's parents lived in Europe and he attended boarding school in Switzerland, but he returned to Massachusetts on vacations, Cutter said.

Kerry lived on a farm? I heard he was in Vietnam, too.
"Did I say LIVED on a farm? Well, I really didn't LIVE on a farm. I was just alive when I FLEW OVER a farm. Well, no, it really wasn't me, it was the airplane that was flying. No, maybe the airplane was alive and I was flying...SAY: did I ever tell you I was in Viet Nam????"
Poser bump!
This guy is reading from the Al Gore script, IMO.
I have only seen the land run as pasture and I can't recall seeing many NE dairy farmers operating much more than a personal garden. There are just too few hours in the day to do both on a large scale unless modern equipment is in use. Note, this is from observational and not professional experience.
"Anyone know how much "Tilling of the Land" one does at a Dairy Farm? "
Good point!
John Kerry is a lying POS. Would bet he never did a hard day's work in his entire life.
Would also bet that I have crawled across more acreage picking strawberries and tomatoes in my life than he and the hired hand drove the tractor across.
What a PHONEY!
I think a summer of farm labor would benefit him immensely, even at this late date.
""Can you imagine, if Bush said anything, that was even a slight stretch, the media would be all over it.""
hmmm...that's not quite the right way to look at it.
Bush lied like crazy last year, didn't he? But barely a whisper of contention from the media. Even the supposedly "liberal" NYT (judith miller whore for statists) trumpeted his every lie as the god's own truth.
Only now is the media getting on the bush-lied bandwagon.
It's a mistake for us to keep knee-jerk reacting in terms of "the liberal media...the liberal media".
It's essential that we always focus on the truth...which is that they're: the STATIST media.
The media will trumpet whoever is pushing for the most statist, the most controlling, the most anti-liberty, policies, programs, etc. of the moment.
Bye.
Thanks.
Good to know the Viking Kittens are still vigilant. :)
This guy is so full of himself. Is he taking lessons from the KlinToon and AlBore both?
Have to admit I thought the same, but since my dad was over to the house I asked him (he taught agriculture at the college level for years, managed the school farm). He can't stand Kerry but admitted that a lot of dairy farms grew their own feed. Not sure how common that would be in Massachusetts because of the cost of land there, but nonetheless... apparently not one we can nail him on.
We can still nail him on the important part: timing. He couldn't have been in Switzerland, and on a dairy farm at the same time.
In his campaign speech he said he was riding a tractor, tilling land on a dairy farm at age 12, when in fact, he was in Europe from age 11 to 13.
Also, at age 7 he moved with his parents to Washington DC, from where he went to Europe at age 11.
And now, translated from pompous, arrogant, East-Coast, blue-blood, condescending aristocrat-wannabe, Kerry-speak to plain English.
Let me tell you something. Even though I was a kid from the East, one of the greatest joys of my childhood was visting my aunt and uncle's dairy farm. In fact, for a while, I lived on a farm in Massachusetts with my parents. I even learned my first "cuss word" from one of the help while sitting on a tractor.
When I was 12 years old, my passion was being allowed to go out and sit on the John Deere. I would drive it around the field, plowing. I learned what it was like to see the pattern of furrows I created. It gave me a sense of accomplishment, even though I would end up dusty, dirty and tired. But it felt great looking back at the field that I had plowed.
Must be where he learned to farm those nuances he tills so well.
Of course in either style it's pure fiction, actually they all deliberate, bald faced lies.
Well..I did the same thing from time to time, and 40 years later it doesn't make me unfit to be an upper-level manager in my company. I don't like the man, and can think of many legitimate reasons why he is not qualified to be president, but "shooting the puck into the woods" is not one of them. Big deal.
