We need to give Rumsfeld a medal, maybe a pay increase.

She ought to be thinking about the future of women in the services instead of her own hiney.
All this whining and trying to CYA is not a model of a very modern general.

I think Abu Ghraib has more or less run its course. The media will try to cover the trials as if they are important, but i think people will give rummy a pass on this -- unless they discover that some iraqi heads were cut off in abu ghraib by OUR guys... i wouldn't doubt soddom did it all the time...

You can't have backseat driving in a war. Nor armchair generals in every home in America, bitching and moaning every time someone gets a paper cut or pulls some embarrassing stunt. In the short term, while there's still fighting and our men and women are in danger, I couldn't care if they were marching around the prison with Iraqi baby's impaled on bayonets. Let the army deal with it, let our leaders win this war, and then when the dust settles you go back, see what you did wrong, and do your best to make sure it doesn't happen again. Questioning every damn thing that goes on in Iraq is just counter productive. Unless you're a dem, that is.

According to a 1998 report by Mr Flyer, one third of military recruits had arrest records. A 1995 report found that a quarter of serving army personnel had committed one or more criminal offences while on active duty. In his 2003 study, Mr Flyer said that military personnel officers had been reluctant to toughen up screening procedures, fearing that the result would be a failure to meet recruitment goals.Surprising.
I wonder what percentages of consensual crimes, violent crimes, crimes against property, and the discharge rates for crimes committed while in the service.

Karpinski appears to be an incompetent traitor. I've tried looking up her military record, but it's hard to pin down who promoted her. She was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1977, served in some capacity in the First Gulf War, and retired into the Reserves in 1987, where she is said to have served in some sort of intelligence capacity. It's not clear who promoted her up to Brigadier. That's a very high rank for somebody with only 10 years of active service. I suspect clinton did the heavy promoting, but all of her RA service seems to have preceded clinton, so who knows?
In any case, she is an incompetent commander with lax discipline over her troops and an inability to keep her mouth shut.

I guess she's dredging up all of the leftists' and media's boogeymen and flinging the dirt. Earlier today
she was blaming the Jooos. By tomorrow I guess she'll be claiming that Halliburton execs were there as well.

For somebody who says she didn't know what was going on at the prison during her watch, she seems to be making an awful lot of claims about it now.

Ping. Is there no end to this disgrace's lunacy? It's now a watch to see just how deep she can dig the hole she's standing in.
I see here that she actually has also tried to blame the JOOOOOOOOOoooos, and now is swinging that dead cat at SecDef.
Just outrageous. I hope the Court Martial judge takes it ALL into account. She needs to be a big example to other commanders.

Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski on abuse at Abu Ghraib prison:Officer Suggests Iraq Jail Abuse Was Encouraged
"I was sick to my stomach when I saw pictures of what those soldiers were doing in that prison," Karpinski said.
Why didnt she go further up the chain of command if she even went ?
In an interview with the St. Petersburg Times, Army Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski says that for many of the prisoners living conditions now are better in prison than at home. At one point we were concerned they wouldn't want to leave. But when asked for details on the detention of top Baath Party officials, she would only say that they were being detained under appropriate arrangements. [St. Petersburg Times, 12/14/2003]
In his 53-page report, Maj. Gen. Antonio M. Taguba offers a blistering attack on Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski's leadership.

I don't think she's on the short list for Major General after this little incident. Maybe for Kerry's Vice Pres, but not 2 stars.
This bitch really disgusts me. From my experience in the Army, she's very typical of field grade and above female officers.
