Here is some news from my best friend who is presently in Camp Anaconda. My best friend arrived in camp last Saturday. he has called his wife outside of Dallas twice a day (morning and night) every day since he arrived ... except today. She said she's a little worried. My friend Dave ... though not a Freeper ... is a conservative committed completed Marine (no such thing as an Ex or former Marine) who is working for Halliburton as a contractor in Iraq. He says that the base has been shelled evry day since he has been there. He also says the people there are EXTREMELY hostile towards foreigners and especially Americans. He says that he sleeps in his flak jacket every night and they are strongly advised to stay in their hotel rooms and not to venture out even to the hotel lobby. He will be emailing me reports at least weekly as soon as his email is up and I will share them with whom ever is interested. Say a prayer for Dave and his wife Carolyn.
That's commitment completed Marine
Semper Fi!

Good luck to him and all the Military personnel risking their lives so we can live free of terror, may they all be blessed.
I'll keep your friend in my prayers. Sounds like he could use some.
Anaconda ping
Count me in. I live in Dallas. My good friend was in Camp Anaconda for 8mos. prior to that he was in Baghdad for 1yr. with KBNR as a driver, then in safety. Special forces & he left. Said it's the pits and the enemy infiltrated the line, back 2mos. ago. yoli
Have I been away from Anaconda so long that they now have a hotel?
And we're wearing our ballistic gear all the time, too, however, not by choice. Even in the thick of it in Fallujah in April, we didn't wear it often in camp. Oh, some did, but some slept in the bunkers, too. Me? Only slept on the floor a couple times. And when you're tired enough, you can get pretty apathetic about incoming if it isn't spraying gravel on your walls.
Heck, it isn't the ones that you see or hear that hurt you!
THX.
PLEASE PING ME.
I'm in Baghdad...it's not real quiet around here, either, but you get used to it.
Got back in May after 4 months at LSA Anaconda. The rockets and mortars do get to you after a while. Its kind of surreal in that its a big base, with a good infrastructure (PX, indoor pool, theater)- could be hometown USA, I guess. Until the mortar hits. Out of the blue, no warning for the first one (and there's rarely more than a couple at a time- the bad guys learned that early). Rest assured your friend will have the best of medical care if (God forbid) he needs it- the Combat Support Hospital, where I worked, is staffed with the best.
As far as the phone situation, if you want him to call, set him up with a segovia account www.segoviaip.com (if he doesn't already have an account) At 5 cents a minute, its the best way to stay in touch, and they have a bunch of segovia phone centers over there.
It's quite tranquil down here as it's Shiite territory. Imo the Sunnis are Iraq's Palestinians.
Prayers...
Will keep you all in my prayers. Stay safe!
River? We don't have no steenking river.
I'm on the high desert somewhere between Baghdad and the Syrian border.
I'll probably be stopping by there in a few weeks. I'll treat you to lunch. ; )
Wow. You get ALL the plum assignments. ;-)
