Please show me where that is written? RR died the morning of the 5th, at noon on the 4th would be thirty days.

After reading the proclamation (not directive, as I thought) posted above, I guess you could argue the 4th based on time of death. But where I live (VA) he was alive on the morning of 5 June, and I put my flag up in the morning. :-)

The important thing is we proudly fly our flags. And if one really wants to do the correct thing, take a peek at how the nearest government installation is flying its flag that Independence Day morning.

The directive states "for a period of 30 days from the day of his death." One day, from the date of his death, would be June 6, two days, from the date of his death, would be June 7, and so on. Try counting to 30 using this method and you will see that it ends on July 5, 2004, when the colors are retired for that day.

Hint: Check all flag poles at government buildings on July 4, if you're determined to plow ahead.

Mine is going to full at noon on the 4th. I also fly my Christian flag above my American Flag..."One nation under God.

June has 30 days not 31. You go to public school too?

while it doesn't address the specific issue of flag protocol, this might
be of interest:

(you'll have to scroll down a bit for the following)

Mourning in America Exhibit at the Reagan Library: On July 4th, 2004, the Ronald Reagan
Presidential Library and Museum will mark the end of the official 30 days of mourning
by opening a memorial exhibit on the passing of the 40th president of the United
