Kerry Says Get Ready - To Announce Running Mate July 6th - It "Could Be" Hillary
The American Spectator ^

DESPERATE MEASURES
Could it be that desperation is setting in a bit more, well, desperately in the Kerry campaign? Up till now, most political tea leaf readers had Kerry announcing his decision on vice president coming the week of July 11. But recent polling numbers may have Kerry advisers changing those plans.

According to a Kerry campaign source, Sen. John Edwards, Rep. Dick Gephardt, Gov. Tom Vilsack, Gen. Wesley Clark, and "a surprise candidate" were each contacted on Wednesday and told to be prepared for an announcement with Kerry as early as July 6. Each short-lister provided the campaign with updated contact and travel information for the July 4 weekend and afterward.

"It's accelerated. It all began happening on Wednesday," says the campaign source. "For the past week we've been told there was no decision, then all of sudden, this. We've been sifting through some cruddy poll numbers, so maybe that has something to do with it."

Cruddy indeed. New polling from a number of sources, including internal polling, has Kerry struggling and even lagging in a race that by all rights he should be leading by low double digits.

"When you factor in a president down in the 40s of approval, and a candidate that many people claim they don't know much about, there is no way we should be losing Michigan and Pennsylvania. But we are," says the Kerry adviser. "We've spent $50 million and have nothing to show for it. Not a single point."

According to the source, the thinking goes that a complete Kerry ticket out in public sooner rather than later should energize things enough in the media and the base to give Kerry the uptick his people have been waiting for.

There was no indication of who the "surprise" candidate was. "It could be Hillary. It's assumed that she has been vetted on a separate track from the others. At least that's the talk. No one here knows for sure," says the source.

Edwards was due in Boston after the July 4th holiday for campaign appearances, at least one of which was to be with Kerry.

According to a Clinton Senate staffer in New York City, late on Wednesday, a staff colleague called from the road and indicated that "the Senator may need to change some things around next week." "But we weren't told to do anything for now," says the staffer.

"As much as we'd like to think otherwise, Bush is none of these. Hillary will bring in enough of the far-left vote that might otherwise go to Nader to tip the balance to Kerry."

>> Hillary will bring in the far-left Nader crowd.

_______________________________________ Check.

Plus, think about the throngs of women who won't be able to resist voting for a female (simply for that and that reason alone) as the #2 in the White House.

I'll bet there will be some heavy conversations going on in the top GOP circles in the next few days ahead.

Please don't get me wrong. I admire and respect Dick Cheney very much and have complete confidence in his ability to lead.

I do not however believe his credentials alone will be enough to counterbalance the weight of what Hillary will pull in from the various minority and borderline groups I've mentioned.

Anybody come up with a good name yet in case Bush decides to counter Hillary's bid?

It would be great if Kerry did the announcement today - just to end all the Hillary speculation. My money is on Edwards.

When did Morris say it wouldn't be Hillary. It had to be just in the past 24 hours.

I'm not going to discuss the merits of the cynical politcal calculatons on whetyehr or not to displace Cheney...but would only add why waste all the time NOT taking President Bush at his word.. He announced LAST year that Cheney would again be on the ticket..he affirmed it two months ago..He does what he says..case closed..

I hope it is Hillary but I doubt it. I suspect it will be Edwards.

Dick Morris is one smart cookie. He understands the inner skullduggery of the Clintons and inner circles of the Democrats perhaps even better than they do.

Quite often he projects with 100% accuracy.

If it were going to be Edwards, that would be no surprise at all. Edwards has been the logical selection all along.

In the world of politics, the old saying "Never say never." applies.

Even to George W. Bush.

Case is still open.

"Hillary knows that unless she makes her bid for president in 2008 by becoming VP in 2004, in 2008 the majority of voters will be saying, "Hillary who?""

This doesn't make any sense either, unless A, she doesn't think Kerry will win and it sets her up in 2008, or B you're with the "Hillary will off Kerry" crowd and run as an incumbent. If a Kerry/Clinton ticket wins in 2004 Clinton would not be the candidate in 2008 under normal circumstances.

"No Edwards or Gephardt for vp. Hitlery will run in 2008."

Hillary's power will wane too much in four more years to be nominated, and she knows it. She is going for it in 2004.

to paraphrase our president..words must have meaning, and consequences....and for all those "friends" of BUsh..the liberal media..who are constantly runing this up the flagpole and hoping that some salute it: were Bush to drop Cheney, for whomever..ALL the articles for the convention, would say how cynical, how political, Bush was in tossing his closest advisor overboard...helll, they'd probably file a lawsuit agaist him under the ADA, sayig that Bush discriminated against Cheney becauise of his heart condition....I'm mean..if a 400 Lb guy has the right to be a subway conductor in NYC under the ADA, then a guy with a stent had the right to be VP..

Morris doesn't close to projecting with 100% accuracy. You sound like a complete plant. Bush is not, will not, and should not replace Cheney with anyone else...despite your empty statements.

To assume she's stupid, is to ignore the fact that she's done a very good job of positioning herself for further gain.</>

She has achieved further gains due to the fact that the leftist base in this country is composed of educated fools.

You, I feel certain, don't have doubts about your sanity and neither do I. Since we are two such great conservative intellects, how can we conceive of these Klintons being elected and reelected in the state of Arkancide, the propulsion of the Klinton duo to eight evil years in the WH, and by la Hitlery's election by New Yarkansas voters to the senate?

If we can see what this marxist philosophy has done to destroy our nation, why can't the others look down the road, then behind them to see what evil socialism has wrought?

No. I stand by my statement. Hitlery and all the Klintonista sycophants are simpletons!

Hitlery, I believe, (and Billy-Goat) was selected by the USSR years ago to undermine our nation. When the USSR became disjointed the PRC moved in to pick up the option. What happened in Arkancide to the Worthen Bank, for example, during Klinton's reign was proof positive. But they needed the stupid voters to continue their mission of self-aggrandizement.

Puppets are brainless. The Klintons are brainless.

Go read the Associated Press-Ipsos poll conducted by Ipsos-Public Affairs. June 7-9, 2004 and come back and continue to post your crap.

It's quite clear you have an agenda and that you can't back that agenda with factual information. Heck, you can't even back it up with circumstantial information.

"If Kerry had half a brain in his head, he would find some way to bend the rules on age to get Harold Ford of Tennessee. I realise not everyone believes me on this, but the man is frighteningly similar to Tony Blair, circa 1983."

Kerry or Ford is similar to Blari in 1983?

Do you think BUsh will be defeated?

Blair is a liberal and I certainly don't agree with his domestic policies like the ones on guns, but he was dead right on the Iraqis and he recognizes the fact that the West is at war with Islam - that this is really WW3.
