The John Kerry Campaign, Home of the Whopper

Something to Yak About – The John Kerry Campaign, Home of the Whopper
John Kerry’s new TV ad talks about himself, and that’s cool. It describes him as, among other things, a father, husband, pilot and having spent 19 years on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, all of which is absolutely true. But they wheel out the whopper when the spot claims he’s the “author of a strategy to win the war on terror.” Really? John Kerry’s book The New War, published in 1997, earned a scathing review in The New Republic, which stated, “if the future Kerry predicted really had arrived, we'd currently be locked in a vicious cyberwar with CD-pirating Japanese yakuza, Chinese kidney-traders, and Italian mobsters.” Some strategy…

Are We Seeing a Trend Here?
The Wednesday Yak noted that John Kerry seems to be relying more on grandiose claims much like Al Gore did in the 2000 election with his Love Story // Internet // Iowa Can Lady exaggerations. Turns out one of Kerry’s biggest whoppers was spawned back when he was looking like an also-ran in the pre-Dean-Scream days of the Democrat primary season. Could this be his campaign strategy?

Kerry v. Boston: The Saga Continues
The flap between John Kerry and Boston Mayor Tom Menino isn’t doing Kerry’s campaign any good, according to an analyst quoted in a July 1 AP report. “This is unprecedented,” spake the sage Larry Sabato, professor of political science at the University of Virginia and longtime observer of all things political. The Kerry v. Menino noise reached a crescendo earlier this week when the mayor referred to Kerry’s operation as “small minded,” and “incompetent.” Yowsa!

Kerry Record Scrutinized By Jewish Press
John Kerry has missed more Senate votes this session than he’s made and the editorial board of The Jewish Press doesn’t like what it sees. When Congress was voting on resolutions backing President Bush’s commitments to Israeli Prime Minister Sharon, John Kerry was nowhere in sight; at least not on Capitol Hill. “In the middle of a presidential campaign, Mr. Kerry apparently felt no need even to issue a statement expressing regret over not being able to make the vote, or one voicing support for the pro-Israel resolution,” noted the JP.

The Final Yak
“American’s standard of living is on the rise. In the past year, disposable personal income is higher now than in 2000, when President Bush took office; more Americans own a home today than at any point in our history; household wealth is at its highest level in American history; American investments are now worth more, the stock market is up 18%, putting more than $2 trillion back into education savings accounts, retirement accounts, and 401(k)s; and more than 1.4 million new jobs have been created in the last nine months, an average of 237,000 jobs per month in 2004.
