Thursday, July 1, 2004 2:05 p.m. EDT NewsMax First Warned Stern Could Defeat Bush
Shock jock Howard Stern warned yesterday that his radio campaign to drive President Bush from the White House is beginning to have an affect - something NewsMax warned about last month.
After adding nine new Infinity network stations to make up for the six Clear Channel outlets he lost in May, the top talker told his audience, "You'll notice that a lot of these markets are in swing states. Our audience is full of independent voters." "Research shows we're having an effect on the election," he added, in quotes picked up by the New York Post's John Mainelli.
Stern urged his listeners to "hang in there, particularly until George W. Bush is out of office." "Clear Channel is in bed with George W. Bush they're big contributors," he complained. " "I'm going to kick [Clear Channel's] asses because I will quickly rise to No. 1 in every one of those markets," Stern vowed.
The revenge-seeking radio-host added outlets in Houston, Tampa, Austin, Fresno, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Orlando and Rochester yesterday.
"We're not sure if I affect the vote in Florida," he said, referring to the infamous Bush-Gore recount fiasco four years ago.
As NewsMax noted last month, research does indeed show that Stern has a lot of influence among swing voters, according to the Washington, D.C. newspaper, The Hill.
"Stern's listeners support Kerry over President Bush by a 10-point margin," the paper said.
I mean, why would anybody be surprised that a liberal Democrat has the lead among listeners who are mostly from large urban markets. Democrats dominate the biggest cities. Also, I'm guessing that the audience is disproportionately young and unmarried; two other groups I expect Kerry to do better with.
Is it me, or is a ten point deficit not that bad among this group? Did Bush win among Stern listeners last time?
Yep!
Stern has been out with venom against Bush for at least two months. The polls have not budged, if anything they are trending towards Bush. Stern over-estimates his influence. I used to be a fairly regular listener until he went on his anti-Bush/FCC tirades, now I won't listen to him at all. The only morons stupid enough to have Stern influence their vote were already in Kerry's column.
I doubt if Stern listeners even know that election day is on a Tuesday again this year.
If one is inclined to cast a vote according to advice from Howard Stern, one was not likely to vote for George Bush to begin with. Having said that, my 21 year old nephew says he is going to vote for Kerry basically because Howard Stern told him to. When I'm finished with him, he'll at least be far too embarrassed to ever make an admission that stupid again.
I uses to listen on occasion, but both stations that use to carry him in North Carolina dropped him years ago. I thought he was losing stations anyway over the last several years.
Stern backed Giuliani, Pataki and Al D'amato, he has a vengeance against president Bush for the FCC coming down on him and will stop at nothing to get Kerry elected. I really don't think he has that much pull.
Good luck. I can't believe someone would do that, let alone admit to it.
If people don't like Howard Stern then they should just shut him off. Kids should be getting ready for and be in school when he is on the air and shouldn't be listening to him anyway if their parents cared.
I know some FREEPER parents who think it's OK for their conservative white-male kids to listen to MTV and think rapper Eminem is a Closet Conservative(1, 2, 3, 4, ), LOL, and if that's what they think is good for their kids, so be it. As far as adult humor goes, Howard Stern is fine with me although his material is starting to be getting a bit old.

| Along with Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut," has there been a film more anticipated than "Fartman," Howard Stern's superhero epic? That's probably why Stern--who announced last week that he's finally bringing his gaseous radio character to the big screen--made sure to trademark the valuable Fartman name. As these U.S. Department of Commerce records show, Howard applied for the TM in October 1992 and got it approved in August 1995 (pages 1-4). And he didn't stop there. The King of All Media owns the TM for the name Howard Stern as well (pages 5-9). But as far as we can tell, "Bababooey" remains unregistered. (9 pages) |

Yes, and they are all liberal Republicans at least when it comes to social issues, and I understand Stern is quite liberal in that area as well.
BWAAHAHAHA!!! Yeah Howie but in order to rise to number 1 you'll have to actually start being funny again and maybe stop talking about naked lesbians, at least for a couple of shows. Somehow it seems like you've run out of material these past 15 years.
yes, pro abortion just like Catholics Giuliani, Pataki and Arnold.
My guess is that he does, but his listeners don't. See, they are sheep who either too lazy or too stupid to think for themselves. case in point, in 1994 Stern floated a trial balloon that he would run for Governor of NY. His whole platform was that if elected he would resign and appoint someone HE thought was good enough run New York. While he never ran, I distinctly recall him registering in the high single digits in the early polling. Sad that there are enough people willing to piss away their sacred right to vote. Unfortunately, not surprising considering we are talking Stern listeners.
I've been a stauch Stern listener for years and have been very disappointed in his latest "turn". He has supported quite a few Republicans in the past. Also, I do believe he has an influence with the younger generation. His audience is young, socially liberal (generally), and often doesn't vote. His goal is to mobilize these people, register them and to get them to vote for Kerry.
Just means we have to work harder.
If an idiot like Stern can influence these people, so can we.
In most states felons can't vote. Most of Stern listeners either felons or underage.
I remember when he ran, it was on a 3 point platform and can only remember one point: to have road construction projects be done at night. When Pataki won, he pushed through the Howard Stern Law.
NJ Governor Whitman named a rest area after him.
Hmmmm? Isn't Stern's baseline listener about 14 years old. I don't think that's going to have much effect on the election.
