Spider-Man 2 is part of "a web of deception, a conspiracy to silence" Oscar-winning documentarist Michael Moore, according to the filmmaker whose Fahrenheit 9/11 is America's current number one box office smash.
"It's not just the cynical timing of the release of Spider-Man 2," said Mr. Moore, "but the movie endorses the unilateral and so-called righteous use of power to overcome so-called evil. This is a thinly-veiled rebuttal of Fahrenheit 9/11 and the entire security plank of the Democrat National Committee platform."
Mr. Moore added that buying a ticket to Spider-Man 2 is "tantamount to voting for George Bush."
Well, I guess I have to go see Spidey this weekend.
Certain poetic irony in that Saddam was captured in a "spider hole", and turned over to the new Iraq government the same day Spiderman 2 is released.
The Moore he talks, the Moore exposure SM2 will get.
Does he really think that he can persuade the lemmings of our pop culture from seeing the summer blockbuster ?
BUMP
Scrapple Face is satire. It would've been nice (and cynically humorous) if Moore really did say this, though.
Hope everyone who hangs out at FR has a wonderful weekend and experiences some profound gratitude...
God Bless
Harry at Ain't it cool news loved it:

"'With great power comes great responsibility' is a lesson the makers of Spider-Man 2 have taken to heart."
-- John Beifuss, COMMERCIAL APPEAL (MEMPHIS, TN)
As for Michale Moore, he reminds me of the poem:
Come let us mock at the great
That had such burdens on the mind
And toiled so hard and late
To leave some monument behind,
Nor thought of the levelling wind.
Come let us mock at the wise;
With all those calendars whereon
They fixed old aching eyes,
They never saw how seasons run,
And now but gape at the sun.
Come let us mock at the good
That fancied goodness might be gay,
And sick of solitude
Might proclaim a holiday:
Wind shriekedand where are they?
Mock mockers after that
That would not lift a hand maybe
To help good, wise or great
To bar that foul storm out, for we
Traffic in mockery.
...yeats
Do you suppose that the release of Spider Man 2 was delayed to accomodate the release Moore's garbage? Someone come out with "The Hollywood Conection" documentary...PLEASE!
Actually I read where the release was bumped up by two days. Hollywood releases are usually on Fridays. Spiderman 2 wanted to take advantage of a Sunday July 4th by assuming people were taking off this week too.
Also, today is Canada Day, and they wanted to make sure they got the Canadian holiday weekend as well.
