Kerry Rules Out Opening Records of 1988 Divorce

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) on Tuesday rejected any suggestion that he release records of his 1988 divorce, calling it old history that had nothing to do with anyone else.

"I have no intention of doing that at all," Kerry said during a campaign stop in Phoenix, Arizona, when a reporter asked if he would release the papers from his divorce from his first wife Julia Thorn.

In a U.S. senate race in Illinois, Republican candidate Jack Ryan quit his campaign last week after the Chicago Tribune and other media sued to have his sealed divorce records made public.

The papers revealed that his ex-wife had accused him of asking her to have sex with him in front of strangers at a club.

Kerry, who will try to unseat President Bush (news - web sites) in November, said there was no reason for him to release his divorce records.

"It's history, ancient history. My ex-wife and I are terrific friends, very proud of our children. We have stayed close through those years as an extended family," the Massachusetts senator said, adding, "It's none of anybody's business, period."

Kerry is now married to Teresa Heinz Kerry.

"It's none of anybody's business, period."

That's what Ryan thought.

I'm with Kerry on this one. I think it's none of the public's business.

He may not have a choice...the law is on the side of FOIA according to the ruling on the recently opened Jack Ryan files......BUT what would really rock his world would be the opening of TA-RAY-ZA'S 1040 forms....THAT's where the action is, IMHO!!!!

I agree. Nonetheless, precedent has been set. We cannot let these double-standards continue to stand.

I agree, but an activist judge did not agree that Ryan's records were no one else's business. Add the activism to stare decisis and Kerry's records should now be opened. Blame the activist judge for this two-edged sword.

I'm inclined to agree with him on this. Others are involved and it is irrelevant!

Why does he get to decide? Did Ryan get to decide, no.

Kerry says, "There's no need for me to release all my military records. It's past history of a private nature."

Heinz Kerry says, "There's no need for me to release my income tax returns. It's past history of a private nature."

Kerry says, "There's no need for me to release my divorce records. It's past history of a private nature."

Geraldine Ferraro's husband said, "There's no need for me to release my income tax returns. It's past history of a private nature."

Hillary Clinton said, "There's no need for me to release any records from my health care task force. They are records of a private nature."

What's with these people? They want us to vote for them when they won't answer simple questions?

I look at it this way, we are his potential employers,
his marital history may affect his performance.
Certainly his unwillingness to disclose his military and civil records doesn't lend itself to confidence in his
ability to be forthcoming on other issues of importance to
me.

I vote NO!
Try town dogcatcher, I hear that post is open and we don't require such high standards there.

They consider themselves the ruling elite. They bow to no one.

He's a Democrat. He says no and the press will drop the subject. Simple as that.

2 thoughts on this one....one thought is not so real but the other gets to the point...lets see if we can figure which is which ;-)

First though is this: Why would we want to open up the divorce files to see that he cheated on his ex wife with Janet Reno? EWWWWWWW

Second though is this: Why would we want to open up someone's personal folders. I know I know they opened up Jack Ryans' but dammit it still doesnt make it RIGHT. This tit for tat stuff will NOT move the country forward.
