Nebraska therapist loses license after allegedly firing a handgun at a memo that angered him
The Associated Press OMAHA, Neb. The Nebraska Health and Human Services system has revoked the license of a North Platte therapist accused of firing a handgun at a memo that angered him.
Robert Powers, a mental health practitioner and professional counselor, got upset when he received a memo last summer saying only the manager of his office would have the key to certain supply drawers, according to state documents.
Powers took the memo and shot it several times with a .22-caliber handgun before returning it to the office, the document says.
Two days later, he reportedly called the office secretary and said he was too angry to return to work because he "might shoot somebody."
The comment prompted several co-workers to seek protection orders against him.
The state revoked Powers' license to practice as a counselor or therapist on the grounds of unprofessional conduct.
Takes one to know one.
I shot a disk drive with a .50AE once.
That'll put a grin on yer mug.
"Before returning it to the office..." Where was the memo taken and shot? If to a licensed shooting range, his actions may be unsubtle but I don't see anything actionable about them unless they were accompanied by other verbal or written threats.
Perhaps he specialized in anger management, for the local Islamic community.

OK, we had a Mr. Happy-man at my office too, but thank goodness he's not there anymore.
I was born and raised in North Platte in the 60s and 70s. I'm guessing this guy is from somewhere else. A real Flat Rocker would have used a shot gun or a high-powered hunting rifle. 22s are for the kids to play with.
By your command...

Wow, they're pretty strict in Neb. Here in Ks, we shoot offending memos without a second thought.
Seeee! It's that sort of mentality that laid waste to my beautiful life as an office memo! Please, will someone call Sarah Brady?
Well, let us give him some credit: while he was agitated, he did NOT go to work, and would probably have calmed down in a couple more days.
Really! He seems perfectly able to administer therapy to me. He knows the subject.
I think it would have to depend on which keys he didn't get. Don't be locking a mental health worker out of the liquor cabinet, buckaroo - it just ain't right.
Where range rules permit, some people will shoot just about anything. If shooting a memo makes one feel good, I see no reason do consider it any worse than, e.g., throwing darts at a picture of an annoying person.
LOL!
Memocide!
When will the evil and disgusting hatred of memos be stopped!
OK. Will you send me your picture?
I just don't know!
Seriously, this is one of the most unintentionally funny articles that's been posted today.
My sis, whom I pinged earlier in thread, sent me the link to it from Aol Instant Messenger.
She wanted me to post it, but I already have a rep as being weird enough..
/sarcasm
BAN ALL HANDGUNS!! If only one memo can be saved, it will all be worth-wile. (sarcasm)
