WOULD YOU ENLIST TODAY, TO JOIN THE WAR ON TERROR, IF THE MILITARY WOULD HAVE YOU?
self | 6-29-2004 | self - vanity - poll

Posted on 06/29/2004 1:44:09 PM PDT by BagCamAddict

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

I swore an oath to serve 30 years ago and I'm still bound by it. Just a sailor, but Semper Fi!

This is just too funny. As I'm reading this thread my wife comes in and sits down across from me (she can't see my screen) and she says, "So you ran 3 miles this morning, walked 5 miles at lunch and rode your bike 10 miles this evening? Are you going back into the Army?" ;-)

Talked to the National Guard about going in as an Arabic linguist. I'm prior service so I can go in over age 35.

Still need to lose a few pounds before I can make a commitment, however.

POA2 - you can go in up to age 35. Go talk to a recruiter. Since you have your BA see about going to OCS.

I'll be 61 in a couple of months and yes, I'd go in a heartbeat.

I'm 57 yrs old and would go back active. I can still do Administrative duties. In my mind I am fighting the war on terror by donating money and articles to the, Disabled American Veterans, USO, and the RNC.

REMF...in the rear with the gear. never. and do you remember what it was like in a combat zone...it don't matter how good you are...shit happens. I don't know...if I even want to think about this... no fixed rotation schedule...no specific date to look forward to...no short timers...I could do it...but I really will have to think hard before I enlist again...of course if it gets bad enough...I get the beans and franks.

BagCamAddict:
I just had my 80th birthday on June 5th. I served a hitch in the CORPS in 1942-1946 and would go in a minute. I am still in good shape, work 8 to 10 hours each day and carry my own weight. Only trouble is that my wife of 59 years might object. I could still do some things that would help the effort. SIGN ME UP.

57 yo nurse, I can work incredible hours. In decent physical shape. RARING to go!

If President Bush is NOT re-elected, I'd get myself kicked out before any liberals become my CIC.

44 years old; a little overweight; somewhat athletic, but declining. Who cares!!! I'll just sit in a recliner and push THE button, while drinking a Bud. How much training could THAT possibly take? Seriously, if my kids were a bit older (youngest is 13), I'd join in a heartbeat. Give me five years.
