Dems are getting pretty desperate - begging!
To: areafiftyone
Begging, that's all the Democrats are good for.

That'd be terrific. Kerry would make a lot of Republicans happy too, if he picked Edwards. It'd be a mistake---no way can he claim Edwards is better fit than anyone else to step into the presidency, if necessary.
Imagine the veep debate!
But would Kerry make such a blunder?

But would Kerry make such a blunder?I believe he would. I wouldn't be the first time.

I still think Kerry might surprise everyone and pick someone no one has mentioned, and a women at that!
I have no idea who. I can just see it happening.

Kerry won't pick Gephardt. He fears that he'd be overwhelmed by Gephardt's charisma.

Edwards is an ambulance chaser that drives up the cost of healthcare by his multi-million dollar malpractice lawsuits.
OB-GYN physicians are paying upward of $400,000.00 a year for insurance because of him and his trial lawyer buddies!

I am thinking along the same lines. It is almost impossible for a Washington insider to get elected let alone two of them on the same ticket.
Edwards would be an easy target too. All you would have to do is dig around and find a bunch of scum bags he represented as a lawyer. All kinds of room to find contradictions, conflicts of interest and general sleeze.

"Edwards is the exciting one,"
"Gephardt just doesn't have the get-up-and-go that Edwards has,"
"That John Edwards is a fresh face and exciting,"
"The person I like best and I hear the most buzz about for V.P. in our area is John Edwards,"
Its like being in the high school girls locker room, as the cheerleaders debate who should be voted prom king.

Edwards would be the democrats' Dan Quail. Everything they accused Quail of could be thrown right back at them...especially given the stature of Cheney (who is no Lord Benson).

Kerry is seriously dissing Edwards by not having selected him already, especially with so many people asking for Edwards so vocally, and with no other obvious choice at hand. The protracted delay reveals Kerry as someone who can't make a decision. At this point, even if Kerry does select Edwards it will seem a reluctant choice. Gephardt showed in the primaries that he has very little ability to garner votes. OTOH, if Kerry goes around Edwards to select some lesser light from the wings of the Democratic party, it will seriously disappoint many potential voters and party donors. In short, Kerry has botched this process badly.

Eight of 11 county chairmen selected at random by the Associated Press in Gephardt's home state of Missouri preferred Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina. Only two chose the former House minority leader.snicker..

"Edwards is the exciting one," A good reason that Kerry would prefer Gephardt.

Historically, what has been the time frame that a running mate is announced prior to the convention?

Don't write Edwards off as just an ambulance chaser. It it was easy to make a couple of hundred million as an ambulance chaser a lot more folks would do it. It takes intelligence, drive, organizational ability and (at least superficially) a winning personality. It also takes contempt for truth, justice and anything else that stands between you and a payday. Edwards doesn't wear well over time -- that's why he is not running for a second term, but he made fortune on his ability to con, err, persuade folks to believe in him in the short term. That makes him dangerous between the Democrat convention and election day.
