Thanks:
It was the most painful thing I have ever been through. I was lucky...I was able to avoid skin grafts. They thought they were going to have to...but it worked out that it wasn't full thickness burns. 3rd degree, but not full-thickness therefore with a lot of debridement, and therapy, it healed sufficiently. Still have a few wicked scars though. And the entire back of my left thigh is numb. But still all in all, a good outcome. I pray that none of my fellow freepers has to ever experience that pain. And I like you really admire the nurses that work the burn ward. The pain and misery they witness every day would send most people over the edge, or make them so cold and heartless that they wouldn't care about anything.
Sober and bored, right??
"After siphoning gasoline into an open garbage can (this was the late '70s, remember) placed in the back seat, they start driving, and of course, go to lite a doobie up ...."
I have a similar story. In 1972 I was in high school and hanging around South Mountain Reservation in NJ with my "buddies". It's between South Orange and Livingston. Stoned hippies parked and ruled the scenery. In one quiet parking area, some guy's car started smoking and before it began to burn, a nude couple jumped out! We were standing by with beers watching this scene from a distance. Sitting on the hood of a car, we watched a fire truck pull up to put it out. By that time a large crowd of people were standing around chanting "Roach It, Roach it":):)
In two weeks the State Police and Park Service chased a thousand freaks and their garbage out of there, and South Mountain Reservation was boringly quiet again:):)
Can you please thank your mom for me? The nurses that I have met during my stay were just the best. Also, please tell her that there are some patients who do everything the nurses and doctors require in order that the next time we meet, it's under better circumstances.
Thank you for sharing your painful experience. You are a survivor, with the strength to do great things in our world, in your own way. God has blessed you, and given you a wonderful gift. Again, thanks!
I hear ya. It really puts things into perspective, though, doesn't it?
I've always been amazed at the speed with which they move... Of course, I also remember my mother chasing me, and by the time she reached the end of the driveway, I was waaaaaaay up the road... leaving her standing there shaking her fist yelling "You've gotta come home sometime!"
Well, one good thing that I've noticed is that children, while precious, are resilient... You can't let them be TOO independent, but you also can't let them be too restrained, either... It's a fine line.
Being a parent is pretty tough, but I'm lucky in that I have two wonderful kids... I don't think I've done too badly so far, all things considered. :0)
Yep...same here! LOL Once when I was a toddler, my mom lifted me out of the tub, turned around to get the towel and I was OUTTA THERE! She had to chase me clear down the street with me in nothing but my all-togethers!
I did eventually run a marathon...but I was in my 20s by then. And I had on clothes. ;-D
We should all be grateful that people who can deal with and treat this kind of horror exist.
I couldn't.
The Darwin Award is very prestigious.
But...will they survive to accept it?

I ended up becoming a distance runner, too LOL and always had on clothes (except for when I streaked the local performance of "The Odd Couple" at the theatre...)
what a shame.. and I bet the good ole taxpayer is footing the hospital bill.
Ps Nice to hear from you again Sun
