Our military will stay as long as the stability of Iraq requires, and only as long as their presence is needed and requested by the Iraqi government.

Since when does our military stand at the beck and call of a foreign government? I know it's a PR move, but I would rather have heard Bush say "We'll leave when we're good and damn ready to leave."

Bad PR, that. And not too practical, either.

If we can't get enough Iraqis supporting us, then it all blows up.

1. We don't stay anywhere where a sovereign government doesn't want us to stay. (see France, and the Philippines for two examples)
2. "We'll leave when we're good and damn ready to leave."

Reason #38,812 why they don't play "Hail to the Chief" when you enter a room..
