The Canadian election is today. If the most recent polls are correct, the Conservative Party of Canada may win more seats in Canada's House of Commons, setting the stage for a Conservative minority government. A new day may be dawning in Canada. But the election is going to be close.
Please use this thread for any early election articles that pop-up over the course of the day, predictions and news analysis, and, of course, the actual results as they come in.
Also, please post links to Canadian elections result sites here.

Words can not express my disappointment.
That's the comfortable explanation. The more honest one is most Canadians really prefer the Left and will shun a government that promises lower taxes, less regulation, and greater individual freedom. Ronald Reagan's brand of conservatism doesn't have any takers in Canada east of Manitoba.
I am afraid you may be correct. The sad fact is, the Left have been banging the big mainstream media drum now for well over one year, arguably for 18 months. The post 9/11 Rightward blip was short lived - it helped the mid term election but quickly passed after that. The Gramscian forces sensed what was happening and quickly resorted to tactics up to and including treason, libel, taking foreign money and support, and in general, all forms of dirty fighting in order to resume their long march. This should serve as a warning to accomodationists, moderates and big tenters that without a clear Rightist approach, and a clear alternative to Socialist Democrats, we will continue to defend a receding front. Accept this or be sorry later....
In my county, the local rag paper in 02 endorsed all the dems, and was posting story after story about dems making big inroads here in a GOP stronghold.
What happened was a clean sweep for the GOP - with 5% above normal turnout for a non presidential year election.
We got scared.
Sad thing is, proportional representation wouldn't help the Conservatives at all. Using the table above, 29% of the seats are 90 seats -- so their share of the popular vote is equal to their share of ridings.
If there was PR, the Liberals and BQ would do worse and the NDP Better. That would push the Liberals even further left. Together the Liberals and NDP have about 55% of the popular vote. Just great.
I think it's more a case of "city mouse vs. country mouse"...
CTV --- Chuck Cadman wins as Independent in B.C. Very Conservative friendly. Lost in the equivalent of a U.S. primary.
. . . boil my blood.
*&^%* Screwed by the East again. What the heck is the West supposed to do when the majority of the seats are back east? I am so sick of the Liberals, I finally just shut off my TV. I can't bear to watch any more. Is there any way to wake this damn country up?
There seems to be a huge difference between these numbers and those shown by the CBC.
This is nutty. In Australia the Australian Labor Party Left together with Australian Democrats and Greens can't get something like 55% of the popular vote!
Please don't use the phrase "lurched to the left." I know it's a sad day for Canada, but if the USA Lurches to the Left on November 2, we're all screwed and overtaxed.
Maybe this minority government will buckle and they will call another election before too long.
Under any system, Canada would have a Leftist government into perpetuity. I doubt more than 25% of Canadians if that subscribe to conservative beliefs. The problem is the bulk of them live west of Manitoba.
It may be that the Tories dropped the ball, by not counterattacking immediately. They perhaps have not watched Clinton closely enough, who honed that rather necessary technique.
move to Alberta and join the SPA.
I should add, that the Left coalition won by about 5 seats. It was really a tight election.
