The Week Ahead: "America's Heart and Soul," Opens Fri [Not exactly Moore's version of America]

The Week in Review - Sunday NYT

[The week to come:]

FILM The Walt Disney Company took plenty of heat in the news media for its decision not to distribute Michael Moore's controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11," and they're likely to get more for "America's Heart and Soul," opening nationally on Friday. Certain to be tagged by critics as the documentary Disney wanted you to see, the film is an unabashedly patriotic assemblage of iconographic images - the Statue of Liberty, Monument Valley - broken up with thumbnail sketches of rugged individuals, including a Colorado cowboy and an Appalachian rug weaver, pursuing their American dreams.

True, but I was surprised they even mentioned it! They had another article listing ALL the political films coming out before November (and, there are QUITE a few), and this film wasn't even on THAT list!

This seems like the kind of film that would have been made by Hollywood in WWII.
Michelle Malkin did a piece this week on the soul of Hollywood today vs. what they did in WWII.
The number of pro-military, pro-U.S. films done even in the dark days of WWII (1939-mid 1942) shows that Hollywood despite some internal liberal leanings still preferred freedom over ideology.
The crew that porports to "take back the country" now couldn't as a entire group fill the heel of the shoes of John Ford and the Hollywood of that age.
I'd like to take the entire family to this, I'll wait for a couple of reviews, the emphasis on diversity is fine as long as the message is that we're all differently made in God's eyes but one as Americans.

Well luckily, my wife is even less interested in movies than I am. We rent em every now and then, but even there, I'd say we might rent 7-8 movies a year, if that. I haven't watched a sit com in years either. In fact, my satelite dish has been out of commission for over a week and I couldn't care less. 95% of what is on tv and in the movies is mind pollution.

Screw Disney. they enabled Moore to do what he's done. "America's Heart and Soul" is just a cover.

Eisner has taken a wholesome, beloved company (an American insitution) and made it a vehicle for deviance and America bashing.

I don't think you should bash the director of this film for what you consider Disney's past mistakes.

Well, I think it is too little too late. It won't get one ipta of the press that Moore has gotten.

It is a cheap cover to create the impression that Disney didn't banroll Moore's film. It did. At the last minute, Moore had to get a different distributor, but without Disney the film never gets made.

"911" is a staggeringly treacherous film to have out during wartime. He can bash Bush all he wants. But he should do it honestly and he shouldn't actively try to slander American soldiers, dampen national morale and give heart to the "insurgents."

Screw Disney!!
