This woman is brave. It bothers me that our country is becoming a bunch of flag hating, religion-bashing, touchy-feely oxygen wasters. A nuke in one of our cities, some kind of mass biological attack or insert-your-catastrophy and the US would be thrown immediately into survivor mode, and we'd have to rely on a generation of fools who think that "everyone's a winner", "competition is evil", and oddly, "evil doesn't exist". Its really easy to be for peace and love, but much harder to do the work it takes to provide for it.

The truth is liberating. With liberation comes the responsibility to educate one-self tirelessly to win any debate. As a teacher, she should relish that opportunity.

I am a public school teacher, strong union supporter and just a plain old Republican.

Which is it? Public School TEACHER - union supporter - Republican ??

All non-inclusive descriptions

A REAL teacher would never brag about kneeling before union thugs and bow down before others simply because of "tenure". Her #1 priority would be teaching the children to surpass in this world and "Damn the union!'

If you believe in communist unions, you are hardly a republican, unless you are from the north/northeast where a person who IF was found in the south would be called hard corps communist, but would be considered a moderate republican up north!

She's a "strong union member." That's the NEA which does NOT reflect Republicanism. Landmark Foundation (Mark Levine) currently has a law suit against this union because it illegaly files zero as the amount it spends on political donations. This union donates millions of dollars to political causes....99% of which are to democrats. Linda Chavez has a new book out about all of this.

Thanks for the post. I am sending the link to my sister-in-law, a liberal school teacher in St Paul.

Dear "out of the closet school teacher", welcome back. Now give your union hell when they are wrong - which is probably most of the time.

Sometimes I despair. Half of the people in this country voted for Algore. Half seem prepared to vote for Kerry. Kumbaya is the national anthem of these people. We are really on the precipice of disaster.

When I taught at a Detroit high school back in the 80s, I was an open Republican. I even had an op ed piece written on school choice. Just about everyone liked me and any political "questions" tossed at me were easily handled. A lot of this depends on your personality and reputation as a teacher.

Today I teach at a Big Ten university and am still open about my political affiliation. I have a Bush sticker on my wall. I have good relations with people, even when we venture into political discussions. Oh, there's one guy who's a bit of a pest, but after the election is over we'll be pals again.

My gosh! I thought "Kumbaya Democrat" was a mere slanderous insult. I had no idea it was for real.

It's beyond me how adult professionals would demean themselves by holding hands and singing KUMBAYA. My Gosh.

I think people can learn a lot about what cultural diversity means when those pushing the topic refer to patriotic Americans as "white trash flag-wavers". It's time to go on the offensive and start shouting:

1. There are numerous cultures in this world.

2. Not all cultures are morally equal.

3. Some cultures, particularly those that preach death is a way of appeasing their false gods, such as the Aztecs and the Mohammedans, are clearly inferior to other cultures.

4. There is a unique American culture that those coming to this nation should either assimulate into within 8 years by becoming citizens or be deported for at least 16 years without any review by the courts.

You would be amazed how many public school teachers have freepmailed me here on FR, often praising something I wrote about a GOP leader (usually FL Gov Jeb Bush). There are lots of former Dem teachers out there looking to vote for a new party.

There are more Republican teachers than you know. Many are union members because most schools are "closed shops" There just isn't a choice. Money is literally stolen from them and given to liberals political causes.

The Republican teachers are very quiet - or they get their cars keyed. They learned that early on. Or they don't get the supplies requested. Or they get the monster students dumped on them. Or they get hall duty or playground more than other people. Or they don't get support from the administration as they would if they were Democrats. It is subtle but Republican teachers are punished. And so they are quiet.

I have 10 family members who are teachers - Republican teachers - who will not put a Bush sticker on their cars. Yes, it would be brave to put the bumper sticker on the car - but there is no way to protect a car that is out of their sight for 7 hours. And they cannot afford to pay repairs out of their pockets over and over. If they don't have tenure, they could loose their jobs. Administration people seem to "find fault" with things Republican teachers do.

However, there are somethings that we can do about union thugs.

We do what we can to mess up union elections. Vote to create discord. Undermine their efforts. Claim a busy schedule and avoid meetings as much as possible. Turn in required union paperwork on the last day possible.

We can donate money to Republican causes. Volunteer our private time to support President Bush. Help distribute those signs and bumper stickers.

And best of all - we can ignore all the union thugs and vote for our personal choices in the privacy of the voting booth.

"We shall overcome" can be sung by Republicans also.

It's not easy even being a teacher, much less a Republican.
