"Isn't blackmail illegal?"
I don't think it's blackmail if it's a fact.
There was a court case about this wasn't there, when it was ruled not slander to call someone gay if they are not?
It most certainly is blackmail. If these people have not chosen to make their preferences public or political (which is what many people here ask for) what else could this be called? I think it's sick and typical leftist behavior. I would hope nobody here would attack anybody they named and deny the activist creeps any satisfaction.
Yes it is. If I know you committed a murder, and I tell you that I'll keep quiet for $25,000, that's blackmail and I would be prosecuted for it, even though the allegation is true.
I'm not a lawyer. Maybe someone here who is more familiar with criminal law could put their two cents in.
Whatever you do, don't give it up to become a blackmailer.
Are you kidding? Most blackmail threats are based on fact.
I don't think this is blackmail though, because they are not demanding any action in exchange for keeping the secret. This is pure intimidation, politics of personal destruction.
Perhaps you are confusing blackmail with slander/libel?
Most blackmail is based on truth. A threat to reveal is not legal.
?
blackmail is always based on facts: the inconvenient, embarrasing, compromising kind.
slander and libel are what I believe you are thinking of.
