Vice President Dick Cheney says he has no regrets about cursing Sen. Patrick "Leaky" Leahy.
"I felt better after I said it," Cheney told Fox News Channel today. "A lot of my colleagues felt what I said badly needed to be said."
The vice president sidestepped Neil Cavuto's questions about whether he had used the word all the media say he did (a word the FCC deems a naughty and costly expletive if uttered on radio or TV). Cheney said that was not the sort of language he usually used.
Cavuto asked Cheney if he had cursed at Leahy. "Probably," the veep replied.
'We Don't Play Games'
Meanwhile, the Washington Post today defended its decision to spell out the vulgar term rather than use such euphemisms as "the F word."
Executive Editor Leonard Downie stated, "When the vice president of the United States says it to a senator in the way in which he did on the Senate floor, readers need to judge for themselves what the word is because we don't play games at The Washington Post and use dashes."
But what about all those "expletive deleteds" in the Watergate stories?
And how come the Post didn't report Hillary Clinton's attack on former campaign aide Paul Fray, whom she called a "f--king Jew bastard"?

Cheney is a true leader!!
I feel better too.
Senator depends needs this more often.
Now that I think of it, the
whole democrat delgation can F*** off.
Thnaks for the address just sent a missive to the Vice President.
I saw it too .. and I loved the "many of my colleagues thought it was long overdue".
But what I loved was the fact that leaky went immediately to the press and whined about the lack of civility in the senate. Did you see Brit's panel ..?? They talked about some of the comments made by the dems in the past few months and they all agreed the dems were by far less civil than Cheney's one remark.
Yep, that's what he said. It was funny how he would never confirm with a 'yes' about the f-work!
Sorry, but your attempt to attribute "moral equivalence" to Cheney and Kerry (and hypocrisy to freepers) isn't going to fly. Kerry's f-word was entirely unprovoked -- in fact Kerry was on the attack when he used it (against Bush's handling of Iraq). Cheney's f-word issued from his outrage over Leahy's continuing attacks on his honor (over alleged Halliburton profiteering). Reportedly, when Leahy tried to shake his hand at the Senate photo session today, Cheney said "don't come trying to shake my hand after you've been calling me a crook for months." Kerry's epithet was an unprovoked and gratuitous attack on President Bush. Cheney's was provoked by months of attacks on his honor. Big difference.
I would have loved to see the look on the effer's face. Probably soiled himself.
Two new monikers this year:
John F'n Kerry and Patrick F.U. Leahy
Motherleahy
Leahy off!
Go leahy yourself.
I guess you think Jesus should have been sorry for going into the temple and throwing tables over and calling Pharisees hypocrites and such. Hah! Cheney expressed his anger at the hypocrisy of the sanctimonious Leahy. It's about time somebody in Washington expressed some truth!
Good for VP Cheney! I'm glad to see someone finally taking a stand against these lying SOBs.
I just sent Cheney a nice email, as follows:
Mr. Vice President (and the handler reading this email
in his stead):
What you said to Senator "Leaky" Leahy earlier this
week was the best thing I've heard a Republican say to
a Democrat in years. For too long, Republicans have
responded to the vicious libel and slander of
Democrats with a smile and a wave. While there are
certainly many times for letting anger and rage speak
for themselves, there are too many times that
Democrats have stepped over the line.
With that said, I'd like to offer a few more
suggestions for other conversations with others in
Congress:
To Senator Ted Kennedy: "Hey, Ted, did you ever find
that Oldsmobile?"
To Representative Nancy Pelosi: "I think you might
need your face tightened again."
To Senator Orrin Hatch: "You work for the Republicans,
not the recording industry, pal."
To Republican Senators from north-eastern states who
vote with the Democrats more often than not: "You work
for the Republicans, not the Democrats. Start voting
with us, or we'll make the rest of your term and
re-election campaign a living hell."
To Senator John McCain: "You're a Republican from
Arizona, not from the media. Turn the ego dial down
and the loyalty dial up."
There are also a few people not in Congress who could
use your words of wisdom, Mr. Vice President.
To Adam Clymer: "I agree with President Bush. You're
(still) an asshole."
To the media in general: "To date, I've only seen two
quagmires. They weren't Afghanistan and Iraq, they
were the nation's op-ed pages and the nation's nightly
news broadcasts. You people are shallow idiots."
Actually, Don Rumsfeld might be better-suited for that
particular message. With all due respect, he's more
deserving of the opportunity.
And, finally, I would like to make a suggestion, which
I hope you will forward to the appropriate people: at
this year's Republican National Convention, the
keynote speaker should be Ann Coulter.
Keep up the good work of calling Democrats exactly
what they are, Mr. Vice President.

P.S. I'll try to make sure that John Kerry doesn't try
to manufacture a voting scandal in my county like Al
Gore did the last time around. I'll do that by voting
for you and President Bush.
Another name that has become a household word, like Lewinsky and Clymer.
I like it. Now when a driver cuts me off in traffic I can yell out, "You Leahying Clymer!"
I wonder if Dubya griped him out. Probably rolled on the floor laughing after he dismissed him, if he did though.
Leaky is an unnatural act.
Would God be pleased if you think it but play with words and tell someone to go entertain himself? Not flaming. Just asking your opinion because I do this sometimes.
And even though he's not sorry he said he won't "usually" talk that way :')
