LONDON (Reuters) - Monica Lewinsky says she feels betrayed by Bill Clinton's failure to acknowledge how he destroyed her life in his newly released memoirs.
In an interview with British broadcaster ITV to be shown on Friday, the former White House intern best known for her affair with the 42nd U.S. president says she was disappointed at how their relationship is addressed.
"I really didn't expect him to talk in detail about the relationship," she said, according to a partial transcript of the interview provided by ITV.
"But what I was hoping, and did expect was for him to acknowledge and correct the inaccurate and false statements that he, his staff and the (Democratic National Committee) made about me when they were trying to protect the presidency," she said.
In response to Clinton's recent remark to U.S. news show "60 Minutes" that he had the affair "for the worst possible reason -- because I could," Lewinsky said she "was really upset" when she first heard it.
"I have spent the past several years working so hard to just move on, and to try and build a life for myself," said Lewinsky, 30, who has been a spokeswoman for diet company Jenny Craig and host of the reality TV show "Mr. Personality."
Lewinsky, who told her own account of the affair in the 1999 book "Monica's Story," said she reluctantly spoke out about Clinton's tome "My Life" because he tried to rewrite history.
"He says he was proud of the way that he defended the presidency, at my expense," she said.
"In the process he destroyed me, and that was the way he was going to have to do that, to get through impeachment," Lewinsky added. "I was a young girl and to hear him saying some of the things he was saying today -- it's a shame."
Lewinsky insists during the ITV interview that she had a relationship with Clinton even though he never uses the word in the book, instead opting for "inappropriate encounter" on page 773 of the 957-page autobiography.
"This is something that I never wanted to talk about publicly and I know he wished had never become public. But this was a mutual relationship, from the way it started all the way through," Lewinsky said.
Her affair with Clinton while he was in office and his subsequent denials of it led to his impeachment in December 1998 after a lengthy and expensive investigation by independent counsel Ken Starr.
ITV will broadcast excerpts of the interview during its lunchtime, evening and late-night news. There also will be a half-hour special, "Monica Lewinsky: My Side of the Story," at 2200 GMT on ITV1.
So he got free phone sex and didn't have to pay $6 a minute or have a 900 number recorded on the WH call log. That means he cares?
Linda Tripp saved your life with the tapes and getting you to keep the dress. And what did Linda Tripp get in return for helping you? She lost her job, was mocked nationally for years, was indicted on criminal charges, had her personal files illegally released and had to take the government to court over it, ran up hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal bills, and was out of work for years. No book deals, no purse sales, no "spokesmodel" deals, just grinding debt and national scorn for trying to save your huge behind from mistakes you made, not Linda.
Monica, sit down and shut up, you skank.
this is part of the problem with the thinking young girls have these days... It's not making love... it's called "hooking up"....
and then they realize that it really is more than just "hooking up".... and they regret it later.
Look , we have all done stupid things in our 20s... it doesn't excuse her behaviour , but it does explain it. dumb just plain dumb...
as for Clinton... as he did with every one... he tried to destroy her.. and claim she was a stalker. I blame him far more than her, at least as far as the first stupid stuff she did.. and now of course she rides the fame train all the way to the bank... so Monica, you are still just a dumb broad.
Monica Lewinski "feels betrayed"!?
What about the rest of America, which actually was?
Not for lack of; it was saved on purpose.
I'm glad to see Monica coming out and reminding Clinton and his adoring fans how much Clinton had and still is objectifying her. The sad realization is that if Clinton were a Republican N.O.W. would be fully supporting Monica. But where is N.O.W. when a woman is publically used and disguarded by a prominent Demoncrat.
I am a bit ornery today. I am too old, but I would rather be employin a sniper rifle in Iraq, IraN OR Syria or argggg. .
I say Good for her.
Same day Cheney tells Leahy to F### off.
Good. Dirtbags deserve recognition.
The young Ms lewinsky was victimized by a predator.
The predator was The President of the United States of America, the most powerful and honored political
position in the history of the world.
This president used the power, prestige, and personnel of this honored and awesome position, used his financially unlimited and connected political machine and used his willing and compliant world media minions to try and destroy this young girl, to cover up his perversion.
One average girl vs the president of the United states of America. Little scary, isn't it?
This is why I cheered on Ken Starr, this is why I am happy about his current set of humiliations. He used my White House for this. Mine.
I would argue that this fascination with "sex" resulted in us overlooking more "serious" issues.
Chinese money in
return for use of the San Diego Naval Base comes to mind.
Nuke parked in the bay. Right.
But no issue more clearly defines how the classless, lowlife, dirtbag Clinton used his public office to use, abuse and publicly destroy whoever had the guts to come out and tell the truth.
Monica showed serious guts to stand up and say, I was used, he lied. Would you have had the guts to face this?
Imagine you are a young intern the White House.
The charismatic President Of the United States is showing interest in you.
This man turns out to be no gentleman.
"Because He Could". He says this on every TV show, in every magazine, to every group who will pay his asking price.
His meaning? You were easy, its your fault, you tramp.
Remember please Sid vicious Blumenthal and The rat Carville, and Trailer trash, broadcast and printed worlwide, in every langauge, everywhere.
Remember please that she was a young girl, self conscious, insecure, vulnerable. This was the target of the experienced predator, the powerless and compliant, vulnerable ones who would not stand up.
Because he could.
Kathleen Willy, distraught over the death of her husband, needing some help. Ring a bell?
Because he could.
Monica made a mistake, no doubt, but the public grilling , the blame, the reason for the entire episode was Slick Willy.
I admire her guts, I cannot imagine the humiliation she feels, and I hope she gets mad enough to scream from the rooftops about the dirtbag who was Our President.
It was not about sex, it was about all of this, the power prestige and personnel of the White House of the United States of America to publicly destroy a young girl the President had used for sex. A young girl who was an intern in his office. A position so desirable, that to get it her parents had donated, how much? $300,000 to the Big D?
This girl has been publicly humiliated to a level unprecedented in history. It is not likely she can go anywhere without being recognized.
You could stand up to this?
The girl has got guts.
If you still wish to attack her, fine, but at least take a breath long enough to think of this:
You like Clinton?
Right.
Who else is in a better position to help
cement his "legacy"?
Because she can.
In this case, high-risk behavior was destructive to an entire country and to our rule of law......
.........and the two of them could not have cared less about it. A pox on both their houses.
I've always felt sorry for this star-struck, overweight, vulnerable young woman.
She calculatedly snapped her thong at Bill, indicating she was available. Why? She was willing to trade sex for a better job. She had done this before, remember. She was a repeat sexual offender.
No, Bill should not have dallied with her.
But to suggest Moanica was some sort of virgin sacrifice to a perpetually priapic president has no basis in fact.
Yep, I completley agree with you.
The book, which weighs in at more than 950 pages, is sloppy, self-indulgent and often eye-crossingly dull the sound of one man prattling away, not for the reader, but for himself and some distant recording angel of history.
In many ways, the book is a mirror of Mr. Clinton's presidency: lack of discipline leading to squandered opportunities; high expectations, undermined by self-indulgence and scattered concentration. But the very lack of focus and order that mars these pages also prevented him from summoning his energies in a sustained manner to bring his insights about the growing terror threat and an Israeli-Palestinian settlement to fruition.
"My Life" has little of classic's unsparing candor or historical perspective. Instead, it devolves into a hodgepodge of jottings: part policy primer, part 12-step confessional, part stump speech and part presidential archive, all, it seems, hurriedly written and even more hurriedly edited.
POOR, POOR MONICA - DESTROYED! ping.
Poor girl - she was under the delusion he loved her and would give up his wife for her. Monica found out what every kept woman has known since the beginning of time - she was expendable. Not that Clinton cared for anything other than what she could do for him and I don't think he even bothered to remember her name between encounters. He wasn't boyfriend material. After all those years she's finally waking up to whom her White House lover really is even though that's hardly been news to most of us in the know for the past six years.

Exactly. Its only a relationship when a guy introduces you to his friends and family. If he's ashamed of you and insists contact be limited to between the sheets, its NOT a relationship. Its more in the nature of an affair. For Bubba it was all business and not once did love or romance even factor into it. I have a hard time believing Monica couldn't read a man as well as most women can read men.
I wonder if Monica's thanked Linda Tripp for advising her to save the dress? Probably not, but it was the best advise she got from anyone during that period.
If I were her father, I'd kill the SOB for disrepecting my daughter like that. Any normal red-blooded American male who IS a father would do anything to protect his daughter. I guess either the scales haven't fallen off from the eyes of Monica's father or he doesn't have the balls to defend his child from a sexual predator.
You and I know never to underestimate the stupidity of the American people who were as taken in as Monica Lewinsky was about Clinton.
