BAQUBAH, Iraq (news - web sites), June 24 -- The 1st Infantry Division soldiers who walked off the battlefield Thursday, exhausted by the frantic pace of combat and a baking summer sun, had seen nothing like it in their three months here.
In dawn-to-dusk fighting, more than 100 armed insurgents overran neighborhoods and occupied downtown buildings, using techniques that U.S. commanders said resembled those once employed by the Iraqi army. Well-equipped and highly coordinated, the insurgents demonstrated a new level of strength and tactical skill that alarmed the soldiers facing them.

"You believe that as we kill people their relatives will like us? If people were killing members of your families you would like them?"
You confuse like and fear.
By your standard, no war could ever be won, because the relatives of those killed would always keep fighting.
The Arabs have been defeated in many wars.
"I still believe that when all is said and done fundamentalist Islamic rule will eventually be in charge of Iraq "
And what do you propose to do about that? Cower?
How? Please be specific.
Who said anything about cowering? I'm just of the opinion that being smart always beats empty flailing of machismo.
Oh we don't have to be real smart, we just need to kill them in larger numbers.
I see you are from New York so perhaps I can tell you a story you can relate to. I moved to Queens, NY NY from Texas for Jr. High School. The locals thought it would be fun to pick on the new guy with the stupid accent. After I beat the hell out of two or three of them, most backed off. After I broke the next ones arm, the rest left me alone for all three years I went to PS 193.
You forgot to mention your smart plan.
Ooh a tough Texan. There were plenty of folks who could have kicked your ass here but you managed to find ones you could take care of. What a tough guy. The point of your story seems to be to try and convince me you're macho. Ooh.
Try and understand that this ain't your daddy's war. There are no states and borders to this war. The problem is that too many people don't get it, much like you don't.
You are the one who claims that there is no solution to this war. Meanwhile, we are winning it.
You advocate the Chicken Little strategy.
Mobie will save us!
You keep making general statements. How are we winning it? Specifics please.
Let me know next time you're here. If you wish to behave everything will go smoothly. If you prefer to do a demo of your belligerence you might want to plan on staying a bit longer.
"How are we winning it?"
By killing the bad guys.
BTW I did NOT seek out the yankee punks for a fight, they thought they had an easy mark as we Southerner's are known by you New Yorker's to be so stupid. Sort of the same way Canadians think of Americans.
Issue an ultimatum to the Saudis to clean up their country with the penalty for not doing so being full scale invasion.
Well then I really disagree with you. The House of Saud is at least a break even proposition for us. There were several bigger islamic problems Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, and the Palestinians need to be dealt with before Saudi.
They openly preach the killing of Americans and Jews yet they're a break even proposition for you. You have an interesting take on the House of Saud and what they have meant to Americans, especially those that died on 9/11.
