The tail end of the baby boomer generation is turning 40 this year, which is an occasion for both celebration and apprehension, says the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
And while the cause for celebration may be obvious, the reason for apprehension may be less clear.
As middle-agers can attest, people in their early 40s begin to notice subtle-and sometimes not so subtle-changes in health like heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, hearing loss, vision problems, arthritis, and osteoporosis.
And, they have plenty of company. Approximately 78 million Americans-about 28 percent of the U.S. population-are baby boomers, born between 1946 and 1964. Over the next 25 years, they're expected to double, then triple, and ultimately, quadruple the 60-80 age group.

I give you: The Leadpenny. Badabing!
I think we were also called, "War Babies."
My parents were born in 1934 and 1938 and don't have much in common with the boomers. They remember the rationing during the war and listening to the radio. They don't like rock n roll and never did drugs. They're still married. They believed in spanking, not therapy when we kids got out of line.
(How the H*LL did that happen!?)
But my parents were boomers, had me young. I've got one foot in both worlds, boomer and Xer, but since I fit the profile of an Xer I consider myself the oldest Xer I've ever heard of.
It's about the life experiences each generation had, I think:
I was born in 1963 ... Never thought of myself as a boomer either
It's like being the youngest of the family ... we were always ignored
I was also born in 1960 and never considered myself to be a boomer.
My husband is a different story......he was born in 1955 and that 5 years is a major generational difference between us.
As you seem to have guested that was the year I was born. However, I don't know what you mean by 'negative stereotype generation too;-)'.
My one sister is 6 years older then me and you're right about the generational difference ... it's like I lived in 2 different families
I do get a kick out of teasing my oldest brother .. I tend to remind him that when he was graduating from High School .. I was just starting 1st grade .. LOL
I'm not saying it's a bad thing.....it's just different memories, I guess.
I'm sure your brother just LOVES that little reminder!!!!
Hey .. what are little sisters for :0)
1929--an old booming f--ter.
And I never really got the Beatles :-)
Yeah. That's a good way of looking at it.
It's funny but I'd prefer to be labled a Gen -Xer than a Boomer.
Before I'm flamed I'd just like to qualify that some of my best friends are Boomers.
You're a 50 states baby. You were born when we had 50 states.
For instance.
If you were born in the early sixties..Was your first date to the movie Grease? Or Animal House? Halloween? Heaven Can Wait? The Buddy Holly Story?
We went to the CYO dances .. does that count?
LOL
