Al-Zarqawi couldnt kill women, children, says wife
AMMAN: The wife of suspected al-Qaeda ally Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi said in an interview published on Thursday that her husband could not be a terrorist responsible for killing women and children. "Theres no way that my husband could be a terrorist. He is friendly and a good man", the woman, who identified herself as Umm Mohammed said in an interview with Jordans second largest newspaper, ad-Dustour.
"He would not recommend the killings of children, women and elderly people as theyre trying to portray him", she told the Arabic daily in an interview at the familys home in Zarqa, 27 kilometers northeast of the Jordanian capital Amman. Repeated attempts by The AP to interview the family, including on Thursday, were turned down.
Al-Zarqawi, 38, whose real name is Ahmad Fadhil Nazzal al-Khalayleh, is on the US most wanted list. US authorities have offered 10 million dollars reward for information leading to his capture, saying he was trying to set up a network of foreign fighters in Iraq on behalf of al-Qaeda. He was blamed for several deadly attacks targeting US-led coalition forces in Iraq. Statements attributed to him have claimed responsibility for executing hostages in Iraq. One recent statement included a threat to kill Iraqs interim prime minister, Iyad Allawi.
Intelligence officials told the AP in Jordan that al-Zarqawi is believed to have at least 2,000 militants working for him in Iraq. In Jordan, a military court convicted him in absentia in a terror conspiracy targeting Americans and Israelis in Jordan that began with the assassination of US aid worker Laurence Foley in October 2002. In April, the court sentenced al-Zarqawi to death in absentia. Al-Zarqawi is also accused of masterminding a foiled terror attack that targeted the intelligence department, the prime ministers office and the US Embassy in Amman. Authorities uncovered the plot in April and arrested six militants who said in televised confessions that they had plotted chemical attacks in Jordan under direct instructions from al-Zarqawi.
Al-Zarqawi hails from the prominent Bani Hassan Bedouin Jordanian tribe. He took the name al-Zarqawi after the city he lived in. He dropped out of school in the 11th grade and later worked for his citys municipality for a few weeks before he became an observant Muslim and lived in seclusion. Neighbours recall little about al-Zarqawi, but say that in his teens, he drank alcohol and frequented bars.
Is there a price on Al-Z's head? If so, it's time to raise the ante.
I didn't realize what a fine, upstanding man he is in this regard.
This information, however, has no bearing on my desire to see him turned into fine pink mist.
He also doesn't have a leg left to stand on.
"Is there a price on Al-Z's head?"
Ten million dollars, per this article. Since he already sentanced to death in Jordan I recommend we root him out and hand him over to the Jordanians straight away.
and Hillary's husband isn't a womanizing liar either!!
sarcasm off
If we capture him we should never turn him over to any Islamic government, they all lie. Either they will release him or he will strangely manage to escape
If they know where his wife is why don't the take her and hold her hostage until he turns himself in?
