New Delhi, June 24. (PTI): Russia today sought strengthening of cooperation with India in combating international terrorism while drawing similarities in terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Chechnya.

Emerging from a 30-minute meeting with Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Russian Ambassador Alexander M Kadakin did not specifically name any country but told reporters that "they (terrorist) are being trained just behind your borders."

Terming his discussions with Patil as "warm and productive", he said a wide range of issues figured, including the fight against international terrorism.

Observing that two countries have been "close friends" and cooperating in fighting the menace of terrorism, Kadakin said these ties could be further strengthened as there existed commonalities in the designs of terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir in Chechnya.

Kadakin said he also congratulated Patil on his election to the Rajya Sabha.

Cool, the start of the US-Israel-India-Russia alliance against terror? After all they face the same enemy as we do.

Every nation should be in that alliance, and any who aren't need to be bombed.

Correction. Only nations that truly oppose Islamic terror should be in that alliance.

Does that include France?

Iran?

North Korea?

Syria?

etc?

Doubt it. More likely a response to the U.S. alliance with Pakistan.

We don't have an alliance with the Pakis, we pay them to pretend to catch alQ guys. THe Indians and the Russians face slamofascists on their own soil, so they have to team up

This has absolutely nothing to do with any 'apparent' (emphasized) US-Pakistan 'alliance.' At best that alliance is just something to allow us to sniff around their border.

The paramount concern facing India and Russia are the twin threats of a strong malevolent China, and Islamic terrorism run amok. The current threat Pakistan presents (to India) exists only because Pakistan has nuclear weapons, and has the ability to take out a couple of Indian cities (India would obviously counter-attack and re-introduce Pakistan to the early Bronze Age, but India would also lose several million people in its heavily populated cities). Pakistan is basically a hornet with a nuclear sting. However China is an enormous threat, and one that will in the future come a-calling and a-mauling; while Islamic terrorism is a clear and present danger for both Russia and India (and in some ways Pakistan could fall under this when it comes to India since almost all terror attacks, if not all, stem from Pakistan).

Oh, and by the way. The US military has been conducting military excercises like crazy with the Indians. Ranging from naval excercises, to the just concluded air-force face-offs, and some dual special forces training.

Something we have not done with our, ahem, 'ally' Pakistan.

Honestly we have a much stronger alliance with India than with Pakistan. Because we need India in the future (as does Russia and Israel ....and both have instituted alliances with India). India is a regional power that is growing in potency both in military and economic terms, and at the same time serves as a viable counter and check to Chinese hegemony. China would have to take care of India on one side, Russian on the other, and keep its peepers on the US at the same time!

Pakistan is basically a vestige of the cold war (where they were on 'our side') as well as our 'helpers' in capturing any Taliban and Al Queda that try to sneak into Pakistan .....a task that they have either been amazingly incompetent at, or they are in cahoots with the bad guys.

And knowing the Pakistani ISI I'd say they smell of Al Queda big time.
