Bill Clinton is taking his act on the road.
It's not just about selling books. That's a done deal. He's got the full cooperation of the establishment press and media monopolies behind that agenda. No, the agenda goes far beyond simple greed. Bill Clinton is shooting his mouth off again in high-profile forums for a much bigger purpose and one far more challenging.
He's trying to rehabilitate his tarnished image as a morally corrupt, self-righteous leader.
That appears to be the central goal of "My Life."
How else can you explain his recent interview on "60 Minutes."
About his affair with carb-challenged Monica Lewinsky, he said: "I did something for the worst possible reason just because I could. I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing something when you do it because you could."
But that sounds like a full admission and act of contrition, you say.
Think again.
About his impeachment, which came primarily because he lied under oath about this affair, Clinton calls it a "badge of honor."
"I don't see it as a stain," he said, "because it was illegitimate."
What was illegitimate about it?
Clinton has now finally confessed to the affair about which he committed perjury to cover up.
That's a badge of honor?
Do you think history and the law would judge you so generously if you lied under oath?
What kind of example is this to set for a president of the United States, the highest law-enforcement officer in the country?
Remember the setting under which Clinton committed this offense: He was testifying in a sexual harassment case brought by a woman victimized by him. She was hardly alone. Other women made other claims including one of a brutal rape perpetrated by him years earlier.
Dan Rather didn't ask any questions about Juanita Broaddrick.
Nor did he ask about even more serious crimes involving the former president:
The way he and his wife abused the civil rights of Americans to further his own narrow political ambitions, the subject of a new book, "Hillary's Secret War."
The way he ignored and even covered up the growing threat of Islamo-terrorism during his administration, the subject of several new books, including "Intelligence Failure," "The Third Terrorist" and "First Strike."
The way he pardoned criminals who have bestowed political and personal favors upon him.
The way he gave away national security secrets to foreign enemies for campaign cash.
The way he bribed the Justice Department's Webb Hubbell into silence in a criminal probe in which he was the target.
The way he orchestrated the cover-ups of the mysterious deaths of Vincent Foster and Ron Brown, also the subject of a new book.
I mean, I could go on and on. I could write several more books about the Clinton crimes and cover-ups. As always, Clinton is only too eager to suggest his one problem, his one flaw, the one chink in his armor as president was an affair with Monica Lewinsky.
It's not true. That was never the real issue. The real issue was the character of the man or the lack thereof.
And the evidence suggests Clinton is not worthy of rehabilitation. He's proud of his stonewalling, his law-breaking and all the other things he could get away with.
With the recent death of President Reagan, however, America has an opportunity to compare two men who held the presidency. Both were human beings. Both were flawed men. Both made mistakes.
But Ronald Reagan was a kind man, a good man, a man who made the most of his talents, a man who more often than not did the right thing.
Can anyone really suggest Bill Clinton is or was that kind of man?
Will always remember that POS looking straight in the camera saying "I didn't have sex with that woman!" And ole sicko Hitlery the Ugly saying a "vast right wing conspiracy" is after my husband. Dump both of these weirdos and good riddance to bad rubbish.
"My Life" is on sale at Kroger's for 21 bucks. I looked at the pictures and moved on. However, I stood where I could view the red, white and blue, flag-studded table filled with the books for the better part of a half an hour. Six people stopped by, looked at the pictures and moved on without grabbing anything up.
Yeah, they may be reading it on both coasts, but in Flyover they don't seem very interested.
But that sounds like a full admission and act of contrition, you say.
Think again.
About his impeachment, which came primarily because he lied under oath about this affair, Clinton calls it a "badge of honor."
It's like he was starting to develop a conscience, but then his immune system kicked in.
Somehow I don't believe this is going to work.
Bill Clinton is another Elmer Gantry crisscrossing the country trying to sell his very own brand of bs.
The Best thing about the Clinton Presidency
The best thing about the Clinton Presidency is that it will be forgotten by history, a mere footnote. If it werent for an eccentric billionaire he wouldnt have had even that much. Absent Ross Perots help there is no chance that Clinton could have beaten President Bush (41) and it is questionable if he could have even beaten the inept candidacy of Senator Robert Dole.
Without any major accomplishments the only note worthy event will be impeachment. By his demonstrated lack of respect for the Truth, the Rule of Law and the Judicial Branch of our Government Clinton may have inadvertently achieved a minor historical legacy.
Anyone know the title of this book?
It's "Ron Brown's Body" by Jack Cashill.
