When a group of children reported hearing screams and seeing a woman's body in a creek not far from the former home of Scott and Laci Peterson, police in Modesto geared up for the worst Tuesday night.
A short time later, authorities, using a helicopter and searchers on the ground, found what had prompted the scare -- a large beaver.
The false alarm came in around 8:30 p.m. with disturbing details. The children, at least one of whom was 11 years old, said a dark-haired woman's body, clothed in a ripped white shirt, was floating in Modesto's Dry Creek........

REDWOOD CITY - A string of prosecution witnesses testified Monday that Laci Peterson frequently complained of fatigue and had pledged to give up exercise walks in the weeks before her disappearance. Scott Peterson claims his wife planned to walk the couple's dog the morning he left for a solo fishing trip and returned to an empty home.........

Juror dismissed from panel
By Jason Dearen
Snip it:
"Breaks in the case
The major break for detectives came in late December, when Amber Frey called the Modesto Police Department's tip line. "I was standing behind the clerk's desk; she was typing in a claim from someone claiming to be his girlfriend," Brocchini said.
Brocchini and another detective drove to Frey's house to check her story. Moments later they were at a Radio Shack, purchasing a recording device for her cell phone.
"I told her not to tell (Peterson) you are working with the police. Just let him keep talking to you ..." Brocchini said. Distaso asked how long it took for Frey to record a call.
"She recorded a conversation while we were there," he said.
The other break came while studying a photograph of Scott Peterson's boat two months after it was taken. For the firs time, Brocchini noticed a pair of pliers with a hair attached resting on the boat's bottom. The hair discovery "was kind of an exciting moment for us," said Brocchini. That hair has not been identified as Laci's, but has been excluded by DNA testing from belonging to Peterson.
At one point in the video, Brocchini tried to confuse Peterson but had the tactic backfire. Peterson said he made two calls to Laci from the marina that day, one at 2:17 p.m. and another on his way home around 4:30 p.m. "I have a couple of concerns. One is from the cell phone call at 12:17, you said 2:17 but the time stamp (on Peterson's cell phone) says 12:17," Brocchini says in an accusatory tone.
Peterson grabs the cell phone and checks the time stamp. After checking he tells Brocchini he mixed up the times. "You said it," Peterson said. With a slight pause to look at his notes, Brocchini admits, "Yeah, you're right."".....

Juror No. 5 removed, motion for mistrial denied
Justin Falconer, previously known to the world as Juror No. 5 in the Scott Peterson murder trial, speaks with the media after he was kicked off the jury Wednesday.
JOHN GREEN/THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Snip it:
"Falconer said he would not vote to convict Peterson of murdering his wife, Laci, an unborn son, Conner, from the testimony so far presented. Speaking to a media throng outside the courthouse, he declined to comment on whether other jurors felt similarly. "

Really, this guy is a bigger boob than Falconer. He's perfectly willing to reject the facts of all of SP's self incriminating statements, his lies, the fact that he not only had the means (the newly purchased boat), motive (a lifestyle crimping baby), total lack of remorse for missing wife/child, Christmas Eve "fishing trip" to (whatta you know) exactly the same place the bodies washed up.
The idiot not only brushes all this aside but then brings up THE HOMELESS PEOPLE in the neighborhood. Well, what are the homeless folk in your area like? In mine the really top level ones have a bicycle for transportation. So a homeless person BIKED the bodies 90 miles to the bay? !!! Or, maybe they hitchhiked there with poor Laci over their shoulder.
I am so SICK of these phony devil's advocate jerks on every channel that I guess the only answer is the old off button.
Our prayer has to be that jury does not check their common sense at the court house door, and (for heaven's sake) that they watch none of these irresponsible TV gabfests.
Did he leave it out because it never happened?
This is really bad!!
Shep did a teaser about this. He will be on shortly.
I'm sure that's what it is. Your family and friends are not even supposed to know what trial you're a juror for, let alone talk to you about the media coverage! How stupid do you have to be to complain to the judge about the way the media's covering you, and say that your family and friends have told you what the media said? No wonder Geragos is peeved he lost this juror.
Re: Ktvu
This certainly looks bad. However, what if Laci did know about the boat on the 23rd? Snott still could have killed her.. Brocchini's error might be just that- another error among many. This still does not clear Snott and his shifting Alibi and his lies about lies...Geragos is simply capitalizing on the many errors of the investigators to try to make Snott look innocent.
RG, for the first time, I do feel the prosecution is blowing this case by not seeing the big picture, and it kills me.
The key word about the warehouse visit is: saw Laci "at" or "in" Scott's warehouse. There is a world of difference, as there is in DAs.
This I will give MG, he does know how to manipulate for his client, right or wrong...he makes the most of every moment. I still am not sure #5 wasn't there in order to get #6 on the jury, just cynical me.
Its hard to tell how it came off in the courtroom. Maybe it seemed like an innocent mistake, and maybe it seemed more like Brocchini left it out to strengthen the case against Scott. The jury (minus juror #5) will only be able to explain away a certain number of errors before they become suspicious.
I'm gonna whine now: I like it better "over here" on this thread than arguing with the big bad disruptors.........I just cannot seem to stop myself.......LOL.
We know that Geragos is using the gag order to his advantage, dropping inuendos that just sit there, because the prosecution can't and won't clear them up. (Remind anybody else of the Clinton White House and Ken Starr?)
Redirect can give Det B. a chance to explain his reasoning.
The witnesses saw a women with black pants and white top. There's only a 10 minute window in which Laci could have been seen theorectically walking the dog. Easy to discount 'me-too' bogus witnesses.
And the media sure seems to be falling all over themselves to paint the prosecution in the direst light.
I'll wait patiently to see what they have to show the jury. Sharon is confident, and the Rocha-Grantskis seem to think that Laci is overseeing all of this from heaven. :-) (This must be a breeze after she managed to get hers and the baby's bodies up on that beach.) lol
Pinz
They're like vampires who are feasting on your blood pressure and anger. :-)
Stay here, and they'll starve to death. lol
Pinz
I agree; I know we had our problems and disagreements in the beginning, but we've worked those things out now and I don't want to have to REEDUACATE every single person who drops onto a thread.......LOL.
I'm not very good a NOT responding to them, in case you haven't noticed.......LOL.
Uh oh. I hestitate to ask--what other thread? Is it "David Westerfield thread bad", or just a few flames?
LMAO!!! Starving..yes, for attention. ;o)
