--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When a group of children reported hearing screams and seeing a woman's body in a creek not far from the former home of Scott and Laci Peterson, police in Modesto geared up for the worst Tuesday night.

A short time later, authorities, using a helicopter and searchers on the ground, found what had prompted the scare -- a large beaver.

The false alarm came in around 8:30 p.m. with disturbing details. The children, at least one of whom was 11 years old, said a dark-haired woman's body, clothed in a ripped white shirt, was floating in Modesto's Dry Creek........

REDWOOD CITY - A string of prosecution witnesses testified Monday that Laci Peterson frequently complained of fatigue and had pledged to give up exercise walks in the weeks before her disappearance. Scott Peterson claims his wife planned to walk the couple's dog the morning he left for a solo fishing trip and returned to an empty home.........

Juror dismissed from panel

Snip it:

"Breaks in the case

The major break for detectives came in late December, when Amber Frey called the Modesto Police Department's tip line. "I was standing behind the clerk's desk; she was typing in a claim from someone claiming to be his girlfriend," Brocchini said.

Brocchini and another detective drove to Frey's house to check her story. Moments later they were at a Radio Shack, purchasing a recording device for her cell phone.

"I told her not to tell (Peterson) you are working with the police. Just let him keep talking to you ..." Brocchini said. Distaso asked how long it took for Frey to record a call.

"She recorded a conversation while we were there," he said.

The other break came while studying a photograph of Scott Peterson's boat two months after it was taken. For the firs time, Brocchini noticed a pair of pliers with a hair attached resting on the boat's bottom. The hair discovery "was kind of an exciting moment for us," said Brocchini. That hair has not been identified as Laci's, but has been excluded by DNA testing from belonging to Peterson.

At one point in the video, Brocchini tried to confuse Peterson but had the tactic backfire. Peterson said he made two calls to Laci from the marina that day, one at 2:17 p.m. and another on his way home around 4:30 p.m. "I have a couple of concerns. One is from the cell phone call at 12:17, you said 2:17 but the time stamp (on Peterson's cell phone) says 12:17," Brocchini says in an accusatory tone.

Peterson grabs the cell phone and checks the time stamp. After checking he tells Brocchini he mixed up the times. "You said it," Peterson said. With a slight pause to look at his notes, Brocchini admits, "Yeah, you're right."".....

LACI JUROR AXED

Juror No. 5 removed, motion for mistrial denied

Justin Falconer, previously known to the world as Juror No. 5 in the Scott Peterson murder trial, speaks with the media after he was kicked off the jury Wednesday.

Snip it:

"Falconer said he would not vote to convict Peterson of murdering his wife, Laci, an unborn son, Conner, from the testimony so far presented. Speaking to a media throng outside the courthouse, he declined to comment on whether other jurors felt similarly. "

I'm still here, Co. Stayed up to see LKL rerun. I'll have nightmares all night.

I think Det. B followed up Scott's claim, and interviewed the woman. For whatever reason, her statement wasn't consistent with all the other evidence they have for that day's timeline. Perhaps it's the same time Laci was at the salong, and they have timed receipts for that.

Det. B still handed the info to the defense, and Geragos is showboating. I bet he has some cliff hanger ready for every weekend!

Howlin's right, this doesn't mean that Laci was in Scott's warehouse, or in the boat.

Scott has a little problem with his statement on the air that the boat was a surprise for Laci, that she didn't know about it. And now, she knew about it, and it was a gift for Ron. Which one are you gonna stake your life on, Scott?

Brocchini has his reasons for leaving it out, and Distaso will ask him for the explanation.

Sounds like lovebombing on that other thread. Someone must be worried that she went too far yesterday. :-)

Sweet dreams!

We also need to keep pointing out that Geragos is a self serving GRANDIOSE buffoon who has NEVER produced his unbeatable EXCULPATORY evidence in a number of his cases.

Not to mention being a DemocRAT lawyer!

What I think is what was the time frame on Laci being there, and being that his warehouse was so packed with items, did Laci know? If before 730 pm, doesn't matter because they were last seen together at Amy's hair salon, then talking to Sharon after 730 pm.....

No it certainly was not Bushis that I exchanged FReemail with...I reported him/her. No way could that poster ever have been reasoned with in FReepmail....his/her sole purpose on these threads is to "have fun" getting us going.
The one I talked to is the one that said that we were taking up forum space, the same one you described on the "jerk" thread.

REDWOOD CITY -- Prosecutors in Scott Peterson's murder trial were dealt a stunning blow Thursday when a Modesto police detective testified that he removed key information from a police report.

Detective Al Brocchini said he knew that a witness said she saw Laci Peterson on Dec. 23, 2002, at a warehouse complex where her husband kept his new boat. Her family reported her missing the next day.

But Brocchini deleted the sighting from a police report, he acknowledged during cross-examination by lead defense attorney Mark Geragos........

1:45 p.m.: REDWOOD CITY -- Modesto Police Detective Al Brocchini used a news report in The Modesto Bee to plant the “seeds of suspicion” in the minds of Scott Peterson’s friends, according to his own testimony Thursday morning. The detective also palmed a gun found in the glove compartment of Peterson’s truck shortly after Laci Peterson disappeared, without asking permission or getting a search warrant.

And he never showed a picture of Laci Peterson and her dog McKenzie to a witness who said he saw a pregnant lady walking a golden retriever in Dry Creek Park about 9:20 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2002.

Those were the key points made by defense attorney Mark Geragos during a second day of cross-examination, which is expected to continue this afternoon. ......

I have lurked for many years on crime forums and FR...There are people who bait and take another side to just get you going, there are those who have things wrong because they haven't kept up, and are those who passionately believe they are right and have selective memory to back things up....

If someone is baiting me and obviously knows only rumor or always thinks the police are crooks I soon ignore them. If someone can provide me with facts or remind me of facts, I am grateful.

Sometimes people look at the same information and interpret it differently...that is where opinion comes in and what forums are for..I like the lack of flaming and the info and courtesy here.

It matters not how I think the case is going, who I like or don't like and how much I believe in the defendent's guilt or innocence. I am hoping for justice and that jury the can see the truth has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt by the time this trial is over..

I think Scott is guilty...I know what I think means nothing. I am just an interested bystander who loves good information and to see how the justice system plays out.

How the war in Iraq goes or how this election turns out is much more important to my life and that of my loved ones than this trial outcome....but I am nevertheless interested!

I do not depend on experts ,Talking Heads, for how the trial is going...I find them entertainment or maddening..

Most of them are defense attorneys and have actually been asked to take the defense side...I'm waiting on this witness to testify and will see how credible she or he is.

Why did Scott not tell anyone Laci knew about the boat and had seen in in the warehouse?... Did he say that ever?..I don't think it matters as to whether he murdered her, only as to credibility of police.and I read somewhere that others have this info in their notes...

.The sighting of Laci and the dog at 10:20 is interesting but problematic if she did not see Laci's face.

What if this warehouse witness is unreliable? In addition to the possibility that witnesses can put Laci elsewhere, there may be reason to believe that others legally manage this witness's affairs. There is a legal recording to indicate that may be the case. She may, also, be known to MPD as a habitial witness. High profile cases bring them out of the woodwork.

I am anxious to see her on the witness stand...I'll bet Garegos doesn't call her and just is leaving this out there to discredit the prosecution. Palming the gun means little. The "witness" at 10:20 did not see the face of the dog walker.

Why did Scott not tell anyone Laci knew about the boat and had seen in in the warehouse..
---
Right, in fact he told the nation via Sawyer that it was a Christmas surprize for laci.

What if she did see the boat on the 23rd? What if she really got upset over it (23rdPM)and the fact that he made such a large purchase without her knowlege (keep in mind he was encouraging her to pawn some of her inheritance). That with other secrets and lies that she might have new about could have made her really angry. Maybe tensions exploded and he acidentally killed her(23rd PM). He used same boat to dispose of her. Later, He needed to divert investigation away from Laci being in or knowing about the boat, so he told the world via Sawyer that Laci didn't know about the boat. Now, there might be a witness that might have seen her checking out the boat.. So now what?.. If he didn't kill her over Amber? If he didn't kill her over money? Did she die over an objection to his secretly purchasing the boat? Maybe..
