WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Rep. David Dreier (R-CA) issued the following statement regarding John Kerry’s visit to California:
"America's economy is on a tremendous upswing, with the fastest growth in nearly 20 years. California has 110,200 more jobs than a year ago, and our economy created 23,600 jobs last month alone. California's unemployment rate dropped to 6.2 percent in 2003, significantly less than the state’s average rate of 7.3 percent in the 1990s. The signs of California's economic growth are clear, but John Kerry is taking his pessimism and misery tour to our state tomorrow. Kerry's doom and gloom won't create any jobs for Californians.
"John Kerry criticized the Healthy Forests Act as 'taking a chainsaw to our public forests' when President Bush signed it last year, but now claims to 'like a lot of parts' of the legislation and professes to support a 'strong' logging industry. Californians will need to figure out which John Kerry to believe on Healthy Forests and the many other issues that he's approached based on what he thinks the voters want to hear."
