Actress says Illinois pol sought liaisons in kinky clubs
JUNE 22--In what may prove a crippling blow to his U.S. Senate campaign, divorce records reveal that Illinois Republican Jack Ryan was accused by his former wife, actress Jeri Ryan, of pressuring her to have sex at swinger's clubs in New York, Paris, and New Orleans while other patrons watched. The bombshell allegation is contained amidst nearly 400 pages of records ordered released yesterday by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge who ruled on media requests to unseal documents from the Ryan case.
The salacious charge leveled at the politician was made by Jeri Ryan, who has starred in TV's "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Boston Public," in a court filing in connection with child custody proceedings (you'll find a portion of that heavily redacted September 2000 document below).
The performer alleged that she refused Ryan's requests for public sex during the excursions, which included a trip to a New York club "with cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from the ceiling." While Ryan, a former Goldman Sachs executive, confirmed the trips with the actress, he described them simply as "romantic getaways," denying her claims that he sought public sex. The politician has repeatedly claimed that his divorce file--portions of which were sealed in 2000 and 2001--contained no embarrassing information that would harm his chances against Democratic nominee Barack Obama. The Ryans were married in 1991 and, in November 1998, Jeri Ryan filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences." Another unsealed document reveals that Jeri Ryan, as part of the divorce settlement, received about $20 million in Goldman Sachs stock, while Jack Ryan retained a $40 million stake in the investment giant. In Prager's first hour he said he wants anyone who has information about the judge's private life to send it to him. Afterall, the judge is a public figure and the judge said we have the right to know about Ryan.
Who cares? When I got a divorce, my lawyer said I could say anything in a deposition. Jack Ryan could have said, "Hey lets go and check it our for kicks." This is now turned into "pressuring" his wife. They were in a custody suit and this is the only damaging thing they could think of. This stinks and should remain private. I would vote for him because I think this really dirty.
My ex threw out all kinds of accusations at me like "she drinks like a fish" because I drink wine occassionally.
There were no witnesses so this should not affect him. Those who are ready to shelve him, should sweep around their own door. If you have never been in a nasty divorce, then you can not imagine how bad it can get.
I haven't been through a nasty divorce but my brother has. His ex was a professional deceiver anyway--during the divorce she lied her a$$ off.
I don't see what all the fuss is all about. It was his own wife at least. He is kinky and an exhibitionist, but it wasn't a rape charge or extramarital activities. What is it with the Demonrats and their judges attempts to make this a scandal? Jeri Ryan is apparently alright with him in saying she's supportive. I don't see the scandal. This is ridiculous. Obviously the press and their Demonrat allies aren't so consistent in saying it's only sex and stay out of private lives.
Hey ! I take exception to that. These guys are as honest as the day is long. Everyone knows when an Illinois pol is bought, he stays bought.
Ooooh crap. You know, I can believe this. Omg, how embarassing and awful!
Forget about Ryan's senate run, what's going to happen when someone shows the kid these documents?
This article fails to mention it, but other articles go into a bit more detail regarding ex-wife Jeri Ryan. They say that she lost her feelings for husband Jack, and she fell in love with another man, following the "public sex" incidents.
What the article fails to mention is that, during or shortly after the time of these incidents, Jeri Ryan was just joining the cast of Star Trek: Voyager as "Seven of Nine". She started in the 1997-1998 season. And the other man, who she was reported living with as early as 1999, was Star Trek Executive Producer Brannon Braga.
My, that was quick. And convenient.
Are you nuts? Do you have a clue as to how degrading that type of behavior is? Especially as a legally wedded wife and mother!
It seems from what I read, both partied fought their release. If I have a divorce, who besides the parties involved have the right to demand their publication if they have been sealed by the court? Sounds like a RAT job to me!
Grrrr...Mamacita!
I agree. This should have never been made public. Ms. Ryan and their son will be quite possibly subjected to public humiliation. No child should have to go through that.
Ryan doesn't belong in public office.
This judge is a pile of crap.
As an L.A. County voter, I'm keeping him in mind.
No one needs to have their private divorce proceedings made public like this.
But then I tend to be a dominant.
So it would figure.
I said nothing. My ex filed first, and gave me sole custody of the kids. If I had spilled my guts, he would have lost visitation and his security clearance.
Of course there were all the lies he told to the woman who is now married to him. Being a mandatory reporter as a schoolteacher, she called CPS on me. They cleared me and suggested that I retain legal counsel, which I can't afford. Soon after, someone who used to work with my ex at Northrop Grumman emailed me about the fact that my ex implied that he and I were having an affair which broke up his happy home. I fought for 6 long years to get away from him.
I know all about lies, and all about closet deviants.
After spending a half-decade wearing 4" heels and a sprayed-on catsuit onscreen for Star Trek: Voyager and offscreen shacking up with the Executive Producer of said show, I think the former Ms. Ryan has probably developed a uniquely thick skin towards these sorts of things.
Correct. I'm all for a little kinky hot sweaty snugglebunnies.
Got a sister?
She is now married to Brannon Braga.
I'm not a closet deviant.
I'm a very, very public one.
Y'see.
Only one crummy picture. What's up with that?
