SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - South Korea said Wednesday it would send troops to Iraq despite the killing of a South Korean hostage whose captors had demanded that the government cancel the deployment.

"The South Korean government reconfirms its position that it will send troops to Iraq to help reconstruction, and as a humanitarian assistant," said Shin Bong-kil, the main spokesman of the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

He spoke after a 90-minute emergency meeting of the National Security Council, which discussed the killing of hostage Kim Sun-il.

"The South Korean government strongly condemns the killing of Mr. Kim Sun-il as an act of anti-humanitarian terror," Shin said.

South Korea plans to send 3,000 troops beginning in early August to northern Iraq.

See I try to explain this to my Mom who gets so depressed about this stuff; Terrorism fails everywhere its tried.

1 In Northern Ireland the movement to drive the British out has collapsed.

2 In Israel the movement to give the West Bank to the Palestinians has fallen apart.

3 In Saudi Arabia the movement to overthrow the monarchy has made them actively pursue the terrorists and hardened their resolve.

4 In Pakistan their President has committed himself to driving the the extremists from the military and destroying the Taliban as a political movement there.

5 And most important in the US 911 has changed terrorism from a "legal matter" into a full out war on terrorism.

Its a disaster, everything these cowards touch turns to crap. I would say that the surest way to destroy your cause is to blow up innocent people in its name.
