Mofaz: Drop in terror attacks signals new trend

[Israel] Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz on Tuesday said the recent drop in the number of terror attacks stems from a changing trend in the abilities of terror groups.

"We are seeing a new trend. The level of terror is slowly declining. We must keep up the offensive operations. The pressure is working. The motivation of terror organizations is high, yet their capabilities have substantially decreased," Mofaz said during a briefing with senior officers at the Israel Defense Forces' Central Command.

The senior officers during the briefing pointed to a 75 percent decrease in suicide attacks and attempted suicide attacks during the first half of 2004, in comparison with the corresponding period last year.

During the first half of the year, the officers said, IDF forces in the West Bank managed to thwart all attacks associated with the 103 terror alerts that were in effect. The attacks that did occur, such as the two attacks in Jerusalem, were not preceded by any advance alerts.

Since the beginning of the year 2,000 Palestinians have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in terror activities, including 58 potential suicide bombers.

The IDF in recent weeks has identified steps taken by the Palestinian Authority to prevent terror activity. The PA has stopped transferring money to the Fatah's military wing - the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and has been exerting efforts, for the first time in a long time, at preventing terror. The IDF believes this activity stems from an attempt by the PA to assess the situation ahead of the implementation of the disengagement plan.

Mofaz instructed the Central Command to conduct preparation work to study the effects of the withdrawal plan in the Gaza Strip on the terror groups in the West Bank and on the PA.

Let's see... 75% decrease in attempted attacks; every single attack from the West Bank that was preceded with advance warning was thwarted, and 2,000 terrorists were captured including 58 potential suicide bombers.

No sarcasm: I'd really love to know what they do in interrogations that the US doesn't do in Iraq.

And the IDF Apache pilots are really really good shots.

Like any good intelligence service, the Mossad uses feel-good drugs (think Ecstasy in professional form) rather than pain to loosen tongues...plus, the IDF has a very successful infiltration program...and they have good technical survellience, too.

"No sarcasm: I'd really love to know what they do in interrogations that the US doesn't do in Iraq."

It's probably highly effective and they spare no mercy nor hold back one bit. The difference there is, they don't have any traitors taking pictures of the "goings on" in their "facilities" that will be sent to the media.

I wonder how many suicide bombers and Palestinians that are in Iraq attacking our forces instead of in Israel attacking them? Perhaps, they can be more effective in Iraq than in Israel?

Now where are the stupids who were claiming defensive walls and offensive anti terror ops would escalate the situation?

Medieval enemies require medieval measures like walls, moats, and severe retaliation.

I clearly see your point. The problem seems to me that we are Americans. We unlike Israel are a country that practices numerous religions. We are a nation divided amongst different cultures/races and sexual practices as well as economic status. If George Bush were to handle terrorism as the prime minister of Israel has done he would not be reelected. I would venture to say that maybe 80% of Israelies share the same values which is a stark difference to the US. Just an opinion.

I share your opinion. Those coming to this country are not assimilating into "American" culture, instead, they are recreating their own culture that they brought with them form wherever...

I heard about a survey this morning that 70 percent of Americans don't think that the war in Iraq was/is worth the sacrifice...or something to that effect. In W.W.II there were more deaths in one day than we have had the entire war...the same with a week or month in Viet Nam. The stomach to fight evil in this country, I believe, has past. I guess that is why they are called "sheeple".

It seems that there will be more uproar and outrage over naked Iraqi prisoners than there will ever be over headless ones on our side.

Beheading has become effective in causing the American opinion to want out and want to change administrations.

"Beheading has become effective in causing the American opinion to want out and want to change administrations."

I disagree. It shows the nature of the enenmy that GW is fighting relentlessly. The sheeple have to look terror in the face now.

All that great shooting is affecting the terrorists ability to field seasoned commanders.

A secret Mossad photo of the latest senior Hammas leaders protesting graffiti without pictures since they are not old enough to read yet.

Yup. The shocking of gonads and crass use of pain are the domain of rank amateurs and yield dubious results.

If you want an important interrogation subject to talk, you make sure he knows you're his bestest buddy in the whole wide world, make him feel safe and comfortable, and hook him up with the good stuff.

Do it right and he'll be sending you postcards for years.
