Faced with lower than expected advertising revenue, the Los Angeles Times said Monday that it had cut about 160 jobs at the newspaper.

About 60 of those positions were held by reporters and others in the editorial operations of the Tribune Co.-owned paper — two-thirds of whom took a voluntary buyout. The business operations at The Times, meanwhile, lost about 100 positions.

...AP, Reuters and Al Jazera ....

You say that like they're three different organizations.

Clinton and Gore are the ones who let the internet genie out of the bottle

Not so much "let it out" as "couldn't keep it in" (which is especially true of the Sinkmeister!).

Looks as if the La Times needs to raise their prices instead of letting people go. Have they no concern for the little guy ?

I guess the LAT could no longer make it, not without Free Republic article postings giving them all those increased page hits and boosted ad revenue. Maybe the Washington Post will be next.

Bummer.

Gee, maybe if they actually tried really reporting the news, instead of the dnc's latest faux fax sheets, they'ed keep a few customers!

This is not good news.

Thousands, if not millions of household birds will lack proper bird cage linings.

"...must in fact be a liberal."

Liberal or conservative, when you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. Pacts with the devil are like that.

It's ok, lormand. Bubba's book will supply the deficiency.

Just gearing up for modern times in which people don't read their so-called newspaper.

.

This translates into the LAT's Inland Valley Edition of 6 years completely shutting down and the release of all personel.

The Orange County Register is now back strong in the Valley after an absence of a couple of years.

For good reason.

You are seeing history made - The Decline and Fall of the Los Angeles Times. It is a long, slow process but so it was with the Romans. The results will be the same.

Probably few of you remember when the L.A. Times was a great newspaper. It was, back in the 50's. And, as hard to believe as it is, the Times endorsed Barry Goldwater over Lyndon Johnson in 1964. That was as good as it ever got. To the Left and Downhill ever since.
