I have to accept it, because I sure as hell don't want Kerry to win the election.

Devil's agreement between the "two" parties who both want unlimited illegal immigration. They have to pay off their campaign promises to the slaveholders. There is no such thing as a "two party system" in America anymore, as a very liberal agenda is being forced down our throats no matter how we vote.

My home town, lived there until I was 18.

South Amityville is an incorporated village Amityville Pics, very pristine and quaint. North Amityville is a hellhole.

Unfortunately they town shares the same schools - wouldn't send my kids there. That's why I got out ASAP.

Harsh...but true. The GOP as it exists today, is not the GOP of the past.....What's a person to do - I can stop living in the past and vote for Conservative candidates, but you and I both know that a third party doesn't have a chance in hell.

I hear what you're saying and I know many FReepers feel as you do.

I just can't bring myself to vote for Bush, again.

Bush has left our borders wide open in spite of 9/11.

If it wasn't for a tip-off from the Russians, we never would have caught these alleged, Somalian, terrorist mall bombers.

I'd rather have 4 years of gridlock than another 4 years of Bush.

We can have four years of gridlock, but we'll still end up with the same type of candidate (actually probably more moderate, to try to pick up more votes from the middle/left).

There's a lot of things I'd like to say about the whole thing out of frustration, but they wouldn't be things I could say in polite company.

I just can't see a change coming anytime soon. Too many of the younger generation calling themselves Republican have a distorted view - they may vote Republican, however they aren't Conservative. They have no problem keeping the two seperate, and maybe these days they should be seperated. We've all seen them jump on people for not repeating the party line.

I'm turning into my father - he has not been happy with any Republican Presidents since Reagan, and to him, even Reagan was too liberal.

We could always go back to more than two parties, and we could have the Vice President be the person with the second most votes, like it used to be a long time ago.

You mean someone needs this proven to them ???

Federal agents said Zavala and Ibanez garnished the wages to pay off the smuggling fees, which averaged nearly $7,000 per visa.

The team effort toward reporting failed in this case. It's not possible for immigrants to be here illegally with properly stamped government approvals (barring expiration), and the cost of that stamp would never be so prohibitively expensive. Either the reporters misused the word by confusing it with its verb form ("to give visa to") or the tyranny of political correctness is starting to wear on them.

Those folks from Peru were taboo.

In West Islip, lots of my Amityville buds have relocated to the East Islip/West Islip region.

I'm from the Carter Years, thus I probably don't know any of your buds. Although some of my friends fathers (Toomey, Klemens, Fox, and McKenna) may have attended Amityville High School.

Maybe we'd better stop slapping their wrists. I know how un pc this is, but if they started being found dumped on their side of the border riddled with bullets, it might act as a deterent. Of course we would slip a pair of pink panties over their heads...just to drive home the message. There are a few "elite politicians" who deserve this treatment. There is blood on their hands also.

I know there are illegals who know exactly what they're doing, which US laws they are breaking, etc. The people who are herded onto 18 wheelers are the ones who are illiterate in their own language. They get marching orders, and they go...sometimes to a horrible death.

What we could do is to set up camps to temporarily house these folks, check them for TB, illness, etc, and spend some time spreading some propaganda about how bad their country has screwed them. In other words, foment "a change in their government". Because most of these people can't read, have them watch a video in Spanish, telling them just how bad their country has mistreated them, how their government is encouraging them to break US laws, which makes them criminals.

Give them a firm but fair warning about trespassing on US soil, but also give them info about becoming legal immigrants. Play "good cop bad cop", and by the time they hit their home turf they'll be plenty pissed off at their government. After they've been taken care of, ship them back home. We shouldn't lose this opportunity to "educate" these unfortunate human beings.

I'm as angry as anyone else here about the "illegal immigrant problem". But I also recognize that in God's eyes we are all his children. God helps those who help themselves. Let's give them a hand in making things right in their own countries.

There was an incident here in So CA, where a pickup truck with a shell was packed with illegals. They managed to get the window open to wave for help from motorists on the 110 fwy. After the CHP got the truck off the fwy, the camera crews and news people were there. A woman who ran a sandwich shop brought them food and drink, because they were dehydrated and starving. Those folks looked at the Los Angeles skyline, and thought they had landed on Mars. It's wrong on so many different levels.

Oh dear, I think I just created a rant ;-)

Great! Please allow me to pick up where you left off. Just finished talking to the district manager of a VERY major grocery store chain. My gripe? The 24 hour location gave very short notice that they would be closed all night to have the floors cleaned.

While that is typical app. three times a year, the guy who told me at 10 p.m. that the store was closed could barely do so in English. Next morning there was quite a crowd at 9 a.m. (the store was STILL closed). About six hispanic men were trying to figure out how to dismantle the brushes from a huge piece of RENTAL equipment and get it up the ramp of a truck which was large, all white, and had no tags or I.D.... In addition to being unable to figure it out, they were also unable to communicate with anyone but each other, no one else was able to speak in fluent Spanish (the words I COULD make out revealed they were not happy campers). It was quite a scene. Considering this occured in the same time frame that we had been told to watch for strange (possibly terrorist) activities, busybody (and former investigative reporter) I am, it seemed reasonable to call the chain's main number and find out why this work was being done by an outfit that seemed to possibly be illegal. The answer? Well, they USED to have their own internal cleaning team, but in the last year they have contracted these services out....while not odd, what WAS unusual was they did not release bidding information. Instead, they used someone who came to them.

While totally smart, and not bad in a capitalist way, it is also TOTALLY criminal in terms of laws and morals. Here is what seems to have happened. The "legal" guy gets a crew of "illegal" workers from a "don't ask, won't tell" labor by the day outfit that pays workers in cash.

Well, there are scads of young,(as well as old) upstart, economically disadvantaged, pro-capitalist can-doers of every color, age and sex that would LOVE the chance to bid. This is a NATIONAL company, and you would expect them to do it just that way, but no.... somebody decided they would "just make a deal...."

Anyway, an even longer story can be made short by saying the manager wanted to let me know that they would NOT be using this method again. While denying that there were any illegals (at least to his knowledge), it was also true that they did not ask to see proof of citizenship.... (imagine?!)He said the work was not done well, there were a number of other problems, etc. and I told him that it concerned me that just anyone could come in and have the store for 12 hours without supervision (is this not a "novel" approach for evil-doers?) In addition, it seems there are many legal start-ups that would have worked for the same (or less) to get the contract, and the store could give the community they "serve" a double boost by hiring them.

If you can't see that, can you at least think of the tax loss from "under the table" hires? It's just another bad example by another company (remember the Walmart fiasco) that should be setting a better example. But they do it because they can get by with doing it. It HAS to STOP. Evidently, we must start by calling attention to this EVERY time we see it. It was good to know that the chain will no longer do this, because I made it clear when I called, until they changed the way they did things I would no longer choose to buy groceries there. We'll see if they told the truth.

Good for you. I am glad you called the manager but this would not work down here. Almost everyone speaks Spanish.
It is difficult to tell the legals from the illegals.

I understand your concern for these illegals. The majority of them have only attended schools through grade 3 to 6. I have met young people who could only sign an X as their name. Many of them cannot read nor write Spanish. However, they do know right from wrong.

True, we should educate these people on the proper way to immigrate. However, the Mexican officials inform them, prior to coming here and also after they are here, how to access our government bennies. These Mexican officials have the blessing of our elite government officials otherwise this could not happen.

Your rant is a noble one but IMHO unworkable. This is not what the elites want. You and I don't count anymore.

They are talking about allowing them to vote in Mexican elections, even if they are living here illegaly. Boggles the mind.

Nothing will be done unless we have another major terrorist attack even then, rather than do something about the border, they'll just have PATRIOT ACT III & IV, etc., and vote themselves more power.

" America is already awake. Every poll I've ever seen shows a majority of every race, creed and color of American citizen are against illegal immigration. It's our politicians that are the problem."

Don't you see the contradiction in your statement? We won't be awake until we start throwing the pols out in wholesale lots!

That company wouldn't be Kroger, would it? They took over Ralphs and Food 4 Less out here.

After the strike,I noticed that more Latin Americans sans English, were stocking the shelves, and also running around doing the shopping cart thing.

The operating hours are now short, too. Both stores used to be 24 hrs a day. they close around midnight now...

You can turn them in, but the wheels of justice are slow moving and rusty.

You could turn them in to the Union, but I don't know what good that would do.

"You see, the GOP leadership knows we'll keep voting for them. If they were to take a firm stance against it, they risk losing a few voters here and there, and after 2000, we can't risk losing any votes.

Rather than the votes they'd lose I think both the dems and the republicans fear the money they would lose from their business contributors. Wages are relational to a certain extent. If cheap labor is bought at $x then the union carpenter is only worth $y and not $z. It also relates to what white collar workers might expect to make.

According to what I have read in the Mexican newspapers, the Mexican congress will not let the Mexicans in the US vote unless they go back to Mexico to vote. The Mexican congress is stacked against V. Fox. The PRI will probably go back in power.

We need to educate them before we kick them back to their own countries. That should be our priority, besides
