After prisoner abuse, can we decry others atrocities?
June 21, 2004
I am not usually a politically active person. Like many people, I conscientiously vote, but am otherwise uninvolved with politics. Then, I saw the news of prisoner abuse in Iraq and knew that whether or not my voice is heard, I have to speak my outrage, sorrow and concern. Credible sources such as the Red Cross tell us prisoner abuse is widespread in Iraq.
How can we, as a nation, decry the actions of Saddam Hussein, how can we decry atrocities that have occurred in Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia when we have created a society where our representatives in this case, some soldiers can abuse and humiliate fellow human beings, and do it with an air of joviality? Looking at those snapshots, the rest of the world sees a picture of America as a society whose citizens find abusing and degrading other people enjoyable and entertaining.
For four years, we have watched President Bush repeatedly, doggedly present to Americans a world view of us against them, where humankind is made of heroes and monsters, a view based on and promoting distrust, divisiveness, and arrogance, mixed with a holier-than-thou attitude which casts non-Americans as morally inferior.
What is needed is a president who will promote cooperation, compassion and a world view that allows this ever-shrinking planet to be one world where diverse people can recognize and respect each other as also being fully human.
Distrust breeds distrust. Four more years of George Bush will only lead us deeper into the realm of distrust, divisiveness, and hate. Is that the world we want?

the media is in desperate overdrive to try and retain momentum for their largely made up story with heightened enthusiasm following the outcry over their cover-up of the AlQaeda / Iraqi ties not to mention the outright sacking of Clinton's book and his pathetic performances, not to mention the apparent likelihood Kerry is actually going to name a mere trial lawyer with little experience or gravitas as his VP, reminding America of what's really at stake in this coming election.
Stupid is as stupid does.
These damn liberal apologists are just like those muslims that beat themselves to a bloody pulp with chains as they walk for miles for no apparent reason. Not even a camel.
In other words..Love, songs, flowers, I'm sorrys' and hugs will prevent beheadings, car bombs, planes being flown into buildings and on and on....Oh... and GW Bush is the root cause of everything...
Weeee arrrre the worrrrrld
Weeee arrrre the chillllldren...
(All we are saying ... is give Leslie Chance?)
Since I received a speeding ticket, I no longer support the death penalty.
. . .how about being able to swim in the ocean without the presence of jelly-fish; or garden without bugs; a summer evening without mosquitoes; a picnic without flies; a world without cockroaches and rats. . .
Sorry Leslie; what we need are those who can recognize life's bitter realities; not just the good; but the bad, ugly and evil. Something Liberals are mentally and emotionally unequipped to do and precisely why they should never be elected to any position that requires keen judgment and action.
If only this world were heaven. . .from the people who cannot say the word; would take even the mention of 'God' out of public view'; and have declared Christmas and Easter as politcally incorrect and yes, tolerate partial-birth abortion as a woman's 'choice'.
Nothing about these people makes sense.
We used panties and dog leashes to humiliate prisoners.
Saddam nailed people's tongues to boards, cut off limbs, fingers, and heads...just to name a few.
Same ballpark, all right.
